<br /> 5) Vice Mayor Hartnett read a Proclamation thanking Mayor Gasparini for her <br /> exceptional service to the.peop~~ ,of Redwood City, and presented her with the <br /> Proclamation, an engraved desk clock and pen set and an engraved City plaque with <br /> the gavel she had used as Mayor. <br /> Mayor Gasparini received a standing ovation. <br /> 6) Councilwoman Howard thanked Council Members Sanfilipo and Steinfeld for <br /> working with her so well and illuminating the many sides of issues that came before <br /> the Council. She thanked them both for asking the challenging questions and stated <br /> she appreciated their work, would miss them very much, and wished them a great deal <br /> of success. Councilwoman Howard told Mayor Gasparini that it had truly been a <br /> pleasure to get to know her and her family, and she treasured the friendship they had <br /> developed and hoped it would continue. Councilwoman Howard thanked Mayor <br /> Gasparini for all the help, advice and enthusiasm she had shared, and said how much <br /> Mayor Gasparini would be missed. <br /> 7) Councilwoman La Berge stated she had known Mayor Gasparini for many years, <br /> from the time her daughter and the Mayor were ten years old in gymnastics class <br /> together. Councilwoman La Berge said that the Mayor may have been the youngest <br /> and shortest member of the class in the annual 4th of July Parade, but she was the one <br /> out in front - and it has never changed. Councilwoman La Berge said she knew from <br /> the start that Mayor Gasparini would be a leader someday. Councilwoman La Berge <br /> thanked Council Members Sanfilipo and Steinfeld for often playing the devil's <br /> advocate which added so much to Council discussions, and thanked them for their <br /> service to the Council and the community, and wished them good luck. <br /> 8) Councilwoman Buchan stated that "anyone who gives of their time to serve the <br /> community deserves a great deal of respect, and Janet you have mine, and I wish you <br /> well in your future endeavors." Councilwoman Buchan told Councilman Sanfilipo <br /> "to our favorite bulldog, thank you for everything and don't go away." To Mayor <br /> Gasparini she said "it's been a joy to see your joy for life, and your enthusiasm, and <br /> see your leadership that got us through this last year. My best to you." <br /> 9) Councilman Sanfilipo stated he had served six years on the Planning Commission <br /> and three years on the Council during a time when the City had gone through a lot of <br /> changes with a large number of projects, and he was very proud to have been a part of <br /> the City's progress. Councilman Sanfilipo said that former City Managers Jim Smith <br /> and Jim Fales had advised him to question the staff, make them earn their living; and <br /> he knew at times it caused people to roll their eyes, but he believed it was a necessary <br /> and productive way to approach Council action. Councilman Sanfilipo thanked Bill <br /> Addiego, Jeff Filippi and Ken Rolandelli for their support; the citizens of Redwood <br /> City for their support and involvement; the City Clerk's office; the City Attorney and <br /> the City Manager; and Art Balsamo for his assistance to the Council.
