<br /> Mayor Gasparini called onPI~nning Director Patterson to come forward, and <br /> described how much he has håd'to endure bearing the brunt of controversy in <br /> development and appeals processes. Mayor Gasparini acknowledged that he must <br /> want to be incognito in the community at times and presented him with a disguise - <br /> large plastic glasses with a huge nose and bushy eyebrows. <br /> Mayor Gasparini stated how much she believed in appreciating and recognizing <br /> people for the good work they do in the community and Redwood City was one of the <br /> richest communities anywhere. She acknowledged the people in the audience and <br /> what they had done for the community. Mayor Gasparini said one faction of the City <br /> did not receive its fair share of accolades, and read a letter to all of the City staff <br /> thanking them for their hard work, working beyond the scope of their jobs, their <br /> creativity, teamwork, dedication, commitment to customer service, positive attitude, <br /> friendship and improving the quality of life in Redwood City. <br /> Mayor Gasparini said that former Mayor Buchan had dubbed her the "Queen of <br /> Trash," for her great work on the Pride and Beautification Committee and she <br /> treasured that title. Mayor Gasparini stated that she wanted to continue the tradition. <br /> She therefore, dubbed Councilwoman Howard the "Princess of Garbage" and gave her <br /> a red satin sash emblazoned with that title and a silver garbage pail. <br /> Mayor Gasparini told Councilwomen Buchan and La Berge how much she <br /> sincerely appreciated their support over the years and urged them to pass on their <br /> Council wisdom to the new members. <br /> Mayor Gasparini thanked Council Members Sanfilipo and Steinfeld for their service <br /> to the community and their support, and said they now had time to do lunch together. <br /> Mayor Gasparini said their were so many friends in the audience she didn't know <br /> where to begin. She thanked her second family, Pete and Paula Uccelli; Pete and <br /> Ginny Hughes; Ralph and Carolyn Nobles; Jack Anthony; Janice and John Lee; the <br /> Bennetts and all the Port Commissioners; Roland Giannini; the firefighters; Ralph <br /> Garcia; Jeff Filippi; Bert Peralta; Mike Gibbons; Sally Hartman; Mike Church; <br /> Corinne Centeno; and everyone who came to the meeting.; and most of all her <br /> husband, John, and her mom and dad. A very emotional Mayor Gasparini thanked <br /> her parents who gave her the inspiration to run for Council and gave her the values <br /> that had sustained her. <br /> Mayor Gasparini stated she hoped that Vice Mayor Hartnett would be the new <br /> Mayor, and that he would make an incredible Mayor. She said she had learned so <br /> much from him, that he was so well respected in the community and that he had <br /> understood her sense of humor. Mayor Gasparini told everyone she wanted to give <br /> him some tools to resolve conflicts and keep order at Council meetings.
