<br />Information and Referral <br />Social Clubs <br />Health Programs <br />Educational Programs <br />Hot Lunch Program <br />Fitness Programs <br />Volunteerism Programs <br />Supervisor Kucala advised that over the last nine months, the facilities <br />and programs offered by the Center have been used 120,748 times, 64,621 <br />senior uses and 56,127 non-senior uses. In response to Council <br />questions, Supervisor Kucala and Chairman Anthony addressed the issue of <br />senior day care, and described Rosenor House and Catholic Charities work <br />in this area. <br />Maria Bransford, Director of the Fair Oaks Senior Center, described the <br />major funding for the Center's services were from the City of Redwood <br />City and the United Way. Director Bransford described the services <br />provided by Fair Oaks Senior Center which included: <br />Lunch Program <br />Transportation (door to door) <br />Education and Special Programs <br />Health Screening and Lectures <br />Social Events - celebrating all ethnic holidays <br />Brown Bag Program, every Friday. <br />Director Bransford described the Center's involvement with citizenship <br />classes and exams; and, fund raising activities to cover budget cuts. <br />4) What Seniors are doing for themselves <br />Geary Lloyd, Senior Affairs Commissioner, described programs for seniors <br />and how the Commission disseminates information about them, including: <br />Shared Food Program <br />Hot Meals from St. Anthony's <br />Hot Lunches and Brown Bag Programs at Fair Oaks <br />Hot Lunches at the Veterans/Seniors Center <br />Meals on Wheels <br />Food Pick-up by volunteers from Safeway, the biggest donor, Pilgrims <br />Pies, the Baguette, and Wild Bills. <br />Thanksgiving and other holiday meals <br />Clothing thrift stores and donations are available. <br />Housing for Seniors includes; Casa De Redwood, Heron Court, Redwood <br />Commons, Main Street and promotion of home sharing. <br />Chairman Anthony described his work with SamTrans, Trips, and with <br />Para Transit (RediWheels) and current problems with those services. <br />SPECIAL MEETING AND STUDY SESSION MINUTES <br /> October 4, 1993 MINUTE BOOK NO. 52 <br /> Page 5 <br /> Page No. 15 <br />. ..
