Vice Mayor Claire, described each
charge and counter charge made by Councilwoman Steinfeld and Councilman Sanfilipo and
the evidence supporting the findings of the Subcommittee regarding each one. Vice Mayor
Claire announced the conclusions of the Subcommittee: There is no evidence to support
any of the charges or counter charges made by either Councilwoman Steinfeld or
Councilman Sanfilipo.
Vice Mayor Claire described the "Additional Findings" of the Report that came to light
during the investigation, but were not directly related to the allegations in the original
charges and counter charges: There is evidence that Joe Steinfeld, husband of
Councilwoman Janet Steinfeld, appeared to put pressure on three employees of financial
institutions in Redwood City to donate funds to a Gala sponsored by the Downtown
Association. Also, from the evidence, neither Councilman Sanfilipo nor Councilwoman
Steinfeld engaged in any disorderly conduct.
