15 | Page

Board Title: Farm Hill Blvd Restriping Plan (Farm Hill and Emerald Hill)
Existing (Pilot configuration)
As a resident at Emeralds, the bike lane allows a safer exit from my driveway. Leave
existing layout. I am a bike rider and frequently use the bike lane
How many bicyclists actually use Farm Hill? Versus number of cars? Why do they have
priority over cars?
(Emerald Hill and Farm Hill) LED streetlight
Guidance lines through the intersection
Intersection of Emerald Hill and Farm Hill: the merge from 2 lanes to 1 lane is too short
and creates a situation where 2 cars race to be first
Intersection of Farm Hill and Emerald Hill: the removal of the stop sign in the middle of
the road on Farm Hill created a hazard by eliminating necessary signage in that area
I like the bike lane on south side of Farm Hill just below Emerald Hill. It provides more
room for me to back into my driveway and I like having a bike lane anyway.
Arrows point left, but merge is to the right
I live at 37## Farm Hill
o There are zero lines in front of my driveway, which makes it very dangerous to
either enter or exit safely
o We have had 2 cars totaled in the past and this design has moved the right most
lane a foot closer to the curb, so we park in the garage and driveway – reducing
the value of our house.
Alternative (Proposed modification to pilot design)
Yea to 2 lanes from Emerald Hill up to 280.
Make it 4 lanes at 30mph from 280 to Alameda. Add stop sign at Cambridge
I agree this new alternative striping arrangement to have 2 lanes from Emerald Hill
heading uphill on Farm Hill
“zipper merge” signs would eliminate more “drag races” when trying to merge again
Flashing stop signs and flags that pedestrians can take while crossing to improve
pedestrian safety
At the northbound merge (toward downtown) after Emerald Hill, why do the merge
arrows point to the left lane – the lane of traffic that is ending?
Saw 2 accidents on Sunday 11/15/15 at Jefferson and McGarvey (first at noon, second at
5pm)
The alternative is much better. Why go to 1 lane then back up to 2? Stay at 2 lanes (in
one direction) going uphill from Emerald Hill to 280
8.A. - Page 58
