16 | Page

Alternative seems better
Board Title: Traffic Signal Exhibit: Farm Hill Blvd and Emerald Hill Road
Increasing the sidewalk corner width is a terrible idea. With the addition of the bike lane
on Emerald Hill Road, the road is already too narrow. This would reduce parking at the
bottom of the road and make turning onto or out of Emerald Hill Road much more
difficult than it is now. Increased corner width would create more of a hazard and have
no real tangible benefit.

Handwritten Comments Given to Staff and Facilitators
Multiple comments from a single person are bulleted separately. Comments from different
people are separated by a blank line.
Survey Monkey.com: all of the web uses it!

Kids not don’t walk or ride bikes to school (not because of traffic safety) but because of
child abductors.
Today I was driving up Farm Hill behind a car that passed a big truck that was going very
slow. The pickup was full of Lyngso type material that was dangerous. Before the lane
changes, the car would have been able to pass the truck safely using the second lane.
This happened around 4:30 pm. Possible head on collision.
I truly believe Farm Hill should be four lanes because it truly is a way to get to 280, not a
neighborhood street. ‐ have lived off Farm Hill for 45 years.

At Eden Bowe/Farm Hill, I feel safer because I have to watch only 1 lane on one side.

The traffic flow and congestion from Upton to Alameda on Jefferson has become
dangerous. Folks heading up the hill are jockeying for the left lane because they know
it’s going to one lane after Alameda. Consequently, left‐turning cars and those going up
Farm Hill are fighting for the left lane. It’s become unpredictable and dangerous.

This reconfiguration has cause me to use Upton as an alternative to get from Jefferson
to McGarvey and Fernside when I used to use Farm Hill. I now drive every day by two
shopping centers and a school. It seems less safe.
8.A. - Page 59
