31 <br /> <br />aforementioned three (3) specialty assignments without regard to the waiting <br />period. <br /> <br />Officers assigned to the following specialty assignments shall be assigned for a <br />period not to exceed three (3) years: Detectives, Juvenile Detective, Street <br />Crime Suppression Team Detective, School Resource Officer, DARE Officer, and <br />Motorcycle Officer. <br /> <br />Officers assigned to the following specialty assignments shall be assigned for a <br />period not to exceed two (2) years, but may be extended by one (1) additional <br />year by mutual agreement of the Officer and Police Department Administration <br />when noted: Field Training Officer, CCAT Officer, Narcotics Task Force Special <br />Agent, Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent, and Vehicle Theft Task <br />Force Special Agent. <br /> <br />The length of assignment for a canine handler shall be the working life of the <br />dog, with the minimum assignment of three (3) years. <br /> <br />Appointments to two (2) or three (3) year specialty assignments shall be <br />subject to a probationary period of six (6) months of service from the date of <br />appointment. During the probationary period an employee may be rejected at <br />any time by the Police Chief for poor performance. The Police Chief will use <br />the comments tracked in Guardian Tracking or comments obtained from any <br />special evaluations prepared by the employee’s supervisor as the basis for <br />rejection. <br /> <br />Any officer in a specialty assignment shall be eligible to apply for a permanent <br />position if one becomes available while they are in their rotational assignment <br />or within six (6) months from the date of completion of the specialty <br />assignment. There will be two (2) permanent assignments for Detective, and <br />two (2) permanent assignments for Motorcycle Officer. Any Officer in the <br />specialty assignment of Canine Handler, Permanent Detective, or Permanent <br />Motorcycle Officer may apply for another specialty assignment without a <br />waiting period. <br /> <br />Excluding vacation requests, seniority will be recognized as length of time the <br />employee has worked within the specialty unit. <br /> <br />SECTION 12. PROMOTION <br /> <br />12.1 Examination <br /> <br />In the event the City desires to fill a vacancy by promotion, the Personnel <br />Officer shall prepare and administer an examination for those employees <br />holding similar positions in lower classes. <br /> <br />Promotional examinations scheduled by the City during an employee’s regular <br />working hours may be taken without any loss in compensation. <br /> <br />12.2 Eligible List <br />6.1.C. - Page 42
