<br /> Councilwoman Gasparini presented an update on her contacts with Tom Davids, <br /> Mayor of San Carlos and member of the Board of SamTrans which oversees CalTrain <br /> right of ways. Mayor Davids stated that basically there is no budget to maintain right of <br /> ways along any part of the CalTrain corridor. Councilwoman Gasparini stated the <br /> situation along the CalTrain corridor through Redwood City was unacceptable and she is <br /> working with the General Services Department to devise an entrepreneurial plan to clean- <br /> up the right of ways in Redwood City. <br /> Councilwoman Gasparini reported that the Pride and Beautification Committee was <br /> working with the General Services Department on the tree ordinance to make it more <br /> understandable to residents. She described the grant that Arborist Gordon Mann is <br /> preparing for the Community Urban Forest Awareness Project; and the "Grow your Own <br /> Tree" pamphlet that is a teaching tool for schoolchildren. Councilwoman Gasparini <br /> advised that Redwood City has been designated a "Tree City USA" for the twelfth <br /> straight year. <br /> Councilwoman Gasparini gave her Council colleagues a list of the Pride and <br /> Beautification Committee's upcoming projects; reported on recycling programs; <br /> partnerships in the community for special projects such as maintaining ball fields; and <br /> other entrepreneurial activities to create pride in Redwood City. <br /> In response to Vice Mayor Claire's concerns, Councilwoman Gasparini advised that <br /> the Pride and Beautification Committee has been in contact with the U.S. Postal Service <br /> in an effort to eradicate graffiti on mail boxes throughout the City. Talks are ongoing. <br /> Councilwoman Steinfeld thanked BFI for recycling information; and, asked that <br /> CalTrain post signs alerting people to stay on the Sequoia Station side of the railroad <br /> tracks regardless of their destination as the train doors will open on that side only. <br /> MEMO 11/8/94 <br /> Councilwoman La Berge, candidate for Council, thanked the Pride and Beautification <br /> Committee for including shopping carts and old business signs on their list of priorities. <br /> Councilman Greenalch told his colleagues that he had spoken with the President of <br /> Canada College earlier in the day, and was advised that after receiving the letter from the <br /> Mayor and Vice Mayor regarding proposed fees for use of Canada's baseball fields, <br /> Canada College had reconsidered that original request and agreed to grant the use of the <br /> fields as in the past. The College requested that an agreement be drawn up describing the <br /> use of the fields by Redwood City SeniorlLittle League and Canada College's use of <br /> Redwood City's Senior Annex.
