She stated <br />that she had expressed concern with two parts of the contract. She spoke personally <br />with Ms. Diaz and stated that she is excited to have her join the organization and the <br />community. Council Member Howard welcomed Ms. Diaz. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />By motion, appoint Melissa Stevenson Diaz to the position of City Manager of the City of <br />Redwood City and authorize Mayor to execute an employment agreement. <br /> <br />M/S Pierce/Seybert to appoint Melissa Stevenson Diaz as the new City Manager and <br />authorize the Mayor to execute an employment agreement. Motion carried by <br />unanimous electronic vote. MINUTE ORDER 15- <br />153 <br /> <br />Council Member Pierce welcomed Ms. Diaz. Council Member Bain welcomed Ms. Diaz <br />and noted that he had questions from the community about why it took so long. He <br />stated that he feels Ms. Diaz will be an excellent choice as someone with an extensive <br />public service background. Council Member Aguirre welcomed Ms. Diaz. Council <br />Member Seybert also welcomed the new City Manager. Mayor Gee spoke about the <br />seamless transition thanks to Mr. Aknin as Interim City Manager and spoke about the <br />collaborative work of the City and community in finding Ms. Diaz. <br /> <br />Ms. Diaz thanked the Council for the support and the process of meeting the Council <br />and Staff. She is looking forward to working with everyone. <br /> <br />8. PUBLIC HEARING(S) <br /> <br /> A. Levy of Benefit Assessments for Fiscal Year 2015/2016 for the <br />Seaport Centre Maintenance District (507) <br /> <br />Mr. Haya, Senior Civil Engineer, spoke briefly about the history of this item and the <br />need for the public hearing and election tonight. He stated that the City Council passed <br />a resolution to levy a Benefit Assessment of $187 thousand upon a public hearing and <br />election. This is a public hearing for the public and property owners to submit their <br />written ballots and any protests. <br />Mayor Gee opened the public hearing. There was no public comment. <br /> <br />M/S Aguirre/Gee to close the public hearing. Motion passed 7-0 by voice vote. <br />BREAK TO COUNT BALLOTS <br /> <br />Both ballots passed 100% in favor with no protests received. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />1. Hold a public hearing. <br />2. Count property owner ballots and declare election results. <br />3. Adopt a resolution, contingent on the results of the District’s property owners’ <br />election, to: <br />a. Order the Levy of Benefit Assessments for FY 2015/2016 for the Seaport Centre <br />Maintenance District in the amount of $187,000, and <br />6.1.F. - Page 29
