demand is conserved by switching subsystems on only for the periods required. Power levels are continuously
monitored and reported to the backend system. AC power can also be added. Please see pricing for details.
p
•
r
, 1 i
sow
AO p - • .
d. MSMs shall be constructed of high grade stainless steel or equivalent composite material capable of
withstanding weather and temperature extremes in Redwood City, California.
IPS complies. The MS1 comes standard with a stainless steel cabinet which is highly vandal resistant and
provides exceptional protection against extreme environmental conditions.
e. Proposer shall describe rain intrusion mitigation measures provided for the MSM particularly the
coin slot and bill acceptor.
IPS complies. The MS1 has shutters in place that are used when no method of payment is being used.
f. MSMs shall have a lockable cash vault that is located in a separate locked compartment and vault
should be accessible without bending down or crouching.
IPS complies. The MS1 features a separate maintenance compartment and collection vault. The cash box is
housed in a secure vault which features a six-point locking system and high security lock. Additional security
is provided by a standard outer cabinet door.
g. MSMs and/or smart meters shall be networked and communicate in real time with the on-line CMS
and handheld monitoring units. The proposer will determine if Wi-Fi or cellular network is the best
network for the study area.
IPS complies. IPS provides meters that utilize digital cellular technology, and can provide meters on either
the GSM (T-Mobile) or CDMA (Verizon) network. IPS was the first single-space meter vendor to have
meters certified on both networks. Our meters provide a pre-integrated and certified wireless service that has
proven to be both extremely cost effective and exceptionally reliable (99%+ uptime). IPS integrates the
wireless module directly into our meter. We do not use an air-card due to the fact that it is not application-
specific and results in poor power performance and slower connectivity. Switching from one carrier to the
other only requires a communications board replacement.
Due to several negative factors, IPS does not currently provide a WiFi or mesh communication system,
primarily due to the impact on meter performance, reliability and costs. While IPS is very familiar with this
technology, we continually find that City coverage and reliability of WiFi networks are inconsistent and
unable to achieve the 99%+ meter communications threshold that we are able to supply with our current
cellular based meter. Additionally, private systems are very costly to operate and maintain. More
information is provided below.
h. MSMs and/or smart meters shall accept coins in the following denominations: One-dollar coin, Half-
dollar, Quarters, Dimes and Nickels. The MSMs shall have ability to filter all coins and only allow
official US currency.
REV: 05-05-16 JS
ATTY/AGR.201 6.094/IPS Group
