b. The coin validation mechanism shall be programmable to accept a minimum of eight different coins
and/or tokens including U.S. nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins.
IPS complies. The MS1 accepts all US denomination coins. The City can program the acceptance of such
coins in the DMS.
c. The coin validation system shall accept all user-defined coins and tokens through software parameter
changes only. Software changes shall be able to be sent to the MSM wirelessly and via a mobile CMS
and/or a handheld device.
IPS complies. These settings can be configured via the DMS.
d. Should the U.S. Mint change the existing currency in any way the Proposer shall, at its own expense,
update the software to accept the new coins issued as well as the old coins as soon as new coins are
available to the general population.
IPS will comply.
e. The Proposer shall be able to alter the coin table to add new coins or to improve screening of invalid
coins upon the Agency's request. Any changes to the validation process shall be made within ten
business days of written request by the city.
IPS will comply.
f. The coin discriminator and coin chute operations shall incorporate no contact points that could be
affected by grime or moisture, or a combination of the two.
IPS complies.
g. The coin discrimination system shall register both metallic and non-metallic jams.
IPS complies. IPS coin validators and card readers both have sensors that can detect any obstruction, whether
metallic or non-metallic. In either case, any object that obstructs or triggers the sensors will set an alarm, in
which case, the meter will notify the client based on a notification distribution list of the customer's choice.
Such jams will also be displayed in the meter management system until the jam is removed.
4. Bill Acceptor and Bill Validation
a. Bills passing through the MSM shall be deposited directly into a sealed cashbox in a separate vault
area of the MSM.
IPS complies. All bills inserted into the MS1 will be deposited directly into a secure cashbox.
b. MSMs shall provide a count of all invalid bills.
IPS complies. The use of invalid bills will be recorded in the DMS.
c. If the bill acceptor slot is inoperable, MSMs shall have the option to accept card payments, NEC and
coins.
IPS complies. In the event of a bill acceptor malfunction, the MS 1 will continue to accept payment by coins,
debit/credit card, smart card, pay-by-cell and NFC.
d. The jam alarm shall only stay active as long as the cause of the jam is present in the bill acceptor.
Alarm should be a notification for staff only— not audible.
IPS complies. When an alarm is triggered the IPS meter will establish a wireless connection to the DMS. The
DMS can then relay the alarm message to a distribution list of the City's choosing, which allows for alerts to
REV: 05-05-16 JS
ATTY/AG R.2016.094/1 PS Group
