<br /> I <br /> I <br /> In answer to Counci1,que.stii.Q.n~" Pl anni ng Di rector Patterson advi sed <br /> that there is no financial benefit to have the Housing Element approved <br /> by the state; that other Elements have been approved that do not have the <br /> detail, numbers or types of housing and housing services that Redwood <br /> City has provided; and that it no longer seemed worth the money nor the <br /> struggle to pursue state approval. <br /> Councilmember Greenalch stated that the City had made more than a good <br /> I faith effort to provide housing and deal with the intention of the letter <br /> of the housing element law and the City should be proud of its efforts. <br /> Councilman Greenalch advised that if this Element is approved by Council, <br /> staff should send it to the state and tell them it is our last, best and <br /> final offer and that they are pursuing a law at the expense of the values <br /> behind the law. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Councilwoman Steinfeld advised that Raychem Corporation recently awarded <br /> four scholarships of $20,000 each to four students: Patty Balbas of <br /> Carlmont High School; Christi Cooper of Sequoia High School; Beth Rich of <br /> Menlo Atherton; and Chau Tran of Woodside, asked that Raychem be recognized <br /> for its significant commitment to this community. <br /> B. Councilwoman Steinfeld reported on the Gala II sponsored by the Downtown <br /> Association held at the Fox Theatre May 15th and advised that the Raychem <br /> Jazz Band donated their talents and entertained the attendees. <br /> C. Councilwoman Gasparini provided an update on the Council Facilities <br /> subcommittee meeting with the Belmont School District regarding the proposed <br /> school, community center, two ball fields, and maintenance facility in <br /> Redwood Shores. Councilman Claire asked for a report on the sale of the <br /> former school site in Redwood Shores by the Belmont School District and what <br /> happened to the proceeds of that sale.
