Finally we will be offering training to the City organization to expand ways to use
community input in the decision-making process, including working with Departments to
create department specific community engagement plans and utilize Peninsula Conflict
Resolution Center (PCRC) to host staff development workshops.
Recommended Citywide Communications Strategies and Tactics FY 2016-2017
There are a variety of communications strategies proposed for the coming year
including furthering the City’s social media presence and exploring more ways to
promote community events and residents’ sense of community; sharing the City’s story
through continuing blog articles, expanding the use of digital newsletters and videos,
using online surveys; and expanding the City’s online presence especially with regard to
neighborhood associations and volunteering within the community. Specific focus will
also be given to promote the City’s 150 year anniversary through a series of events and
online campaigns. Other focus areas include continuing our collaboration with PenTV
and strengthening the strategic planning process.
A full list of all communications and community engagement strategies proposed
for FY 2016-2017 is listed in Attachment 1.

Citywide Communications FY 2015-2016 Highlights

Community Satisfaction Survey

Last July, the City launched a Community Satisfaction Survey to gain input from the
community and assess overall perceptions of living in Redwood City; gauge satisfaction
with the City’s performance in providing services and programs; and gather resident
feedback on community members’ sense of community, as well as City services and
programs.

The survey results are used to evaluate improvements to City services and programs,
explore changes in ways the City communicates with the community and assist
departments in evaluating new initiatives, services and programs.

The survey interviews were completed by phone and online. The data have been
weighted based on the Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey to reflect
the actual population characteristics of Redwood City residents in terms of their gender,
age, and ethnicity. The survey size was a sample of 832 residents, more than double
the amount of residents interviewed compared to the 2010 survey.

7.A. - Page 4
