The Fire Department regularly administers community engagement programs and <br />provides public education events on an annual basis including site evaluations and fire <br />drills, block parties, fire safety talks, smoke alarm outreach, fire extinguisher training, <br />ride alongs, and school visits. The Department also attends various special events <br />throughout the year (i.e. Hometown Holidays, 4th of July festivities, the North Fair Oaks <br />Parade, etc.). This year, the Department held 282 public education events reaching <br />over 25,000 community members. <br />Other Community Engagement efforts include: <br />· Community members of all ages visit Redwood City Fire Stations on an annual <br />basis <br />· Hosted Fire Prevention Week open houses at Station 9 and Station 13 <br />· Held a few informational outreach meetings with property owners to answer <br />questions about the Fire Safety First program <br />· Attended monthly Friendly Acres Home Owners Association meetings <br />· Attended community events hosted by the Redwood City CHP <br />· Supported the College of San Mateo Fire Service program <br />· Assisted Sequoia High School with the recently established CERT program for <br />teens <br />· Reached hundreds of local youth through the Junior Fire Academy <br />· Furthered the CERT program to educate participants on how best to prepare for <br />and respond during the aftermath of a disaster <br /> <br /> <br />Library Services Department <br /> <br />The Library Department provides a number of community engagement programs, <br />partnerships and initiatives including hosting community service programs and <br />information sharing forums, and much more. <br /> <br />Specific community engagement efforts include: <br />· Supported the ‘Socios for Success’ partnership <br />· Engaged the North Fair Oaks Community Council to discuss Spanish language <br />collection purchases at Fair Oaks Library <br />· Participated on RWC Together Steering Committee for RWC 2020, including <br />planning and supporting World Café Dialogues at Sequoia High with over 100 <br />attendees participating and RCPL Downtown engaging over 15 people <br />· Participated in planning for the new jail facility as literacy services providers in <br />the jail and a partner of the RCPL Juvenile Diversion Program <br />· Library Director was a member of the RWC 2020 Community Schools Work <br />Group to envision a cradle to career pipeline for supporting success of all <br />students at all levels in Redwood City <br />· Library Director hosted presentations and sought feedback about library services <br />with the Chamber Education Committee, Lions Club, Redwood Shores <br />Community Association, Roosevelt Neighborhood Association, Peninsula <br />7.A. - Page 11
