Jain, City Engineer <br />Councilman Stout stated that this was a major matter on a street like Jefferson Avenue and he was of <br />the opinion that.the utilities should be placed underground. Councilman Stout thought that information <br />should be obtained in regard to the cost and kept in mind for future street widening. Councilman <br />Spillers moved to continue this matter for two weeks and notify the people by post card of the meeting. <br />Mayor Royer asked that the motion be changed and have the newspapers carry the notice, thus saving <br />the Clerk's office from mailing out the post cards. Councilman Spillers withdrew from his motion the <br />part where the people be notified by post card and added to the motion to hold a study meeting on <br />this subject. The motion was seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. The Mayor set May 2nd at <br />7:30 p.m. for the study meeting. Councilman Weiss wanted to know if it would be possible for the City <br />Engineer and the City Manager to know if it would be possible for the City Engineer and the City Manager <br />to bring in any possible alternates on Jefferson Avenue. The City Manager and the City Engineer were <br />asked to take -this matter into consideration. <br />REPORT PROPOSED NOISE ADATEMENT PLAN, COUNCIL CHAMBERS. The Clerk read the report submitted by George S. <br />Erskine, professional engineer. Councilman Britschgi moved that the report be held over for a study <br />meeting with the entire City Council, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br />SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY AGREEMTN REGARDING PROPOSED EXTENSION OF FRANKLIN STREET. The Clerk read the <br />letter from the Southern Pacific Company. Mayor Royer appointed Councilman Britschgi to work on the <br />committee with Councilman Granger. Councilman Granger moved that the matter be turned over to the <br />committee and, also to the city Attorney for a report in two Meeks, seconded by Councilman Britschgi <br />and carried. <br />OPENING PARKING LOT CELEBRATION, DOVTN 770N MERCHANTS, TENTATIVE DATE, JUNE 8th AND JUNE 9th. Tom Tuite, Jr., <br />reporting for John Ryan, asked for. the Council's sanction of the celebration and of the following: <br />1. Thinking of the group to have the opening of the parking lot celebration an official function <br />of the City. <br />2. Obtain use of City property. <br />3. To have the City Council ask the Department Heads to give their full cooperation in this matter. <br />4* In order to facilitate matters, would the Council appoint a City official to act as an official <br />f or the City. <br />5. Date tentiatively set as June 9th for the big celebration. <br />Councilman Britschgi moved that Mayor appoint a committee to work with the Chamber of Gommerce and the <br />committee originally appointed by Mayor Herkner, seconded by Councilman Spillers who asked to include <br />approval of the celebration. Motion carried. Mayor Royer appointed Councilmen Britschgi and Granger. <br />Councilman Granger stated that Army tanks should not be allowed to park on the parking lot and he moved <br />that someone in the Cit be authorized to contact Mr. Frank for the use of his property for parking he <br />Y p Y P g t <br />military equipment, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />City Engineer Jain a sked what should be done in regard topenaltieson the parking lot. He feels that <br />the contractor could get more help and proceed faster in the matter. C auncilman Stout moved that the <br />City Clerk write a letter advising the contractor that the penalties would be enforced, seconded by <br />Councilman Herkner. Councilman Stout asked that a report be made in two weeks. Councilman Granger <br />requested a weekly report from the City Manager. Motion married. <br />LETTER OF RESIGNATION, CITY ATTORNEY AND ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY. Councilman Britschgi moved that the letter <br />be made a part of the minutes, seconded by Councilman Spillers. City Attorney Currie asked the Council <br />to do something before September lst and he suggested that the Council take action now so they could <br />consider the matter before the budget is set.
