1. 7 7
In reference to the above named subject as requested by the Mayor and City Council, I would
like to call to your attention that this is a very old building and is located in a No. 2
Fire Zone and due to the change of occupancies, certain corrections should be made. Janitor
closets and vertical openings for vent shafts shall be of not less than one hour fire
resistive construction. The present exterior finish of the building is wood rustic and painted
and should be one hour fire resistive construction such as stucco. The interior of the
building, such as corridor walls and ceilings, can be painted with an approved fire
retardant paint to conform to the one hour fire resistive construction, as required by code.
The State Fire Marshalls office has been contacted in regards to this matter and they advise
FM that this building be made to conform to the Uniform Building bode for this type of
Children Day Care Occupancy.
h1w
It is my opinion that before any alteration or work is done on this building, that the
services of a structural engineer be acquired to determine the feasibility of the necessary
improvements and safety to the structure for this type of occupancy.
Very truly yours,
GEORGE ASVOS, Fire Marshal
Councilman Granger wanted to know if anybody would commit themselves as to whether or not the building
Mia
could be made available to anybody if a -second fire escape was made available. Fire Marshal Asvos said
that the building could not be used for a day school as it now stands. Councilman Granger wanted to know
if the building could be used by the Boy Scouts in the evening. If the building could be used, the Council
would like to know. Fire Marshal Asovos and Building Inspector Kreiss were asked to prepare a report as
to the cost of repairing the building and possible use for the Day Care and Boy Scouts.
CITY ATTORNEY REPORT REGARDING THE MATTER CF THE FINETTI VIOLATION. The City Attorney said he had nothing to
report. Councilman Spillers moved that this matter be dropped from the agenda, seconded by Councilman Weiss
and carried.
CITY ATTORNEY REPORT ON MICHEL BUILDING ON MAIN STREET. City Attorney Currie asked that this be extended for
two weeks. Councilman Granger moved that this matter be extended for two creeks. Councilman Granger moved
that this matter be extended for two weeks, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
r^` CITY ATTORNEY BRIEF ON THE SALES TAX AND WHAT THE CITY COULD USE THE MONEY FOR. This could be done either by
+ ordinance or Capital Outlay Act of 1937• They could indicate that all money should be used for Capital
Outlay or an ordinance could be adopted to the effect that the Council could spend the money as they saw
fit. If done under the Act, only a vote of the people could cange the provisions of the Act. If done by
ordinance, the Council would have the right to amend the ordinance at any time. This was set for a
study meeting pon Thursday, June 7th, at 4:00 P. M. The Mayor asked the Manager to designate someone to set
bwo
up a study meeting with the,Merchants Association, Chamber of Commerce and the Council.
Mayor Royer appointed Councilman Herkner to be the representative of the Garbage Disposal District. _Councilman
Spillers moved approval of the appointment, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried.
REQUEST FOR CANCELLATION WEED ABATEMENT ASSESSMENTS AND CURRENT 1955-56 REAL PROPERTY TAXES.
