200 Councilman Spillers st-ited that he was not in favor of a sales tax and he stated that he did not see <br />where there was any place in this report that took into consideration the matter of recreation. This <br />was followed by discussion. The City Manager was asked to work with the City Attorney in determining <br />the possible results from a dollar and cents standpoint* <br />COUNCIL APPROVAL APPLICATICNS FOR SALE OF SAFE AND SANE FIRSVORKS. The Fire Department recormends,"safe and <br />sane" that permits be allowed subject to the conditions and to the following regulations established by <br />State and Local Fire Department regulations: <br />Kleer Drug, 2636 Broadway <br />Toy L Party Shap, 232 Woodside Plaza <br />Donovan's., Chestnut and Bayshore <br />Councilman Stout moved that the permits be granted as recommended., seconded by Councilman Britschgi and <br />carried. <br />PL)'�.NNING COLM,1ISSION RECOMMENDED DENIAL APPLICATICN A. E. RUKAN TO REZONE LOTS 12 TO 14., BLOCK 15, LENOLT <br />(WHIPPLE NEAR INDUSTRIAL WAY) FROM R-1 TO C-1. The Planning Commission stated in their letter that the <br />Improvement Club in the area filed a protest at the public hearing. The Planning Commission deniedI the <br />request for the following reasons: <br />1. No public necessity was shown. <br />2, The Planning Commission wishes to wait until the recommendations on the new land use Plan <br />are before them* <br />Councilman Spillers moved that this be set for public hearing on July 9th., seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi and carried* <br />CLAIM-. CALIFORNIA AUTO ASSOCIATION CLAIM FOR DAMAGES TO MEMBERS AUTO CAUSED BY DRIVING AUTO TNTO STREET <br />DEPRESSION., HURON BET17�EN OAK AND ROOSEVELT. Councilman Spillers moved that the claim be denied and <br />referred to the insurance carrier, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried* <br />PACIFIC GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY REPORT REMOVAL OF POLES ON EL CAMINO REAL SOUTH OF BR13VSTER. This letter <br />was to inf om the Council that the two poles on the east side of El Camino Real south of Brewster <br />installed under temporary permit from City of Redwood (" ity w ere removed last week. The letter was <br />ordered filed* <br />SANDRA J,�ERRYFTELD, JOHN GILL SCHOOL STUDENT., REGARDING NNTI*LITTERBUG CAMPAIGN TO CLEAN UP RM,7100D CITY - <br />STREETS. The Clerk read the letter. Councilman Britschgi moved that this letter be referred to the <br />City beautification Committee, the Clerk to answer Miss Merryfieldts letter thanking her on behalf of <br />the Council and telling her of the Council's action, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />TRAFFIC CO12TITTEE REdOIXFENDED PRIORITY FOR PROPOSED AUTO1,1ATIC CPOSS-ING GATES INSTALLATIONS SUBJECT TO <br />AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. The Committee recommends the priority of the proposed installation b e as follows <br />when the- funds are available: <br />16 <br />Jefferson Avenue <br />2e <br />Chestnut Street <br />3. <br />Spruce Street <br />4. <br />Maple Street <br />5* <br />Cedar Street <br />6# <br />Main Street <br />7. <br />Broadway <br />Vain Street and Broadway were recommended last in the order of priority. This was done, as a man is <br />employed at each of these crossings by the Southern Pacific at the present time, which affords adequate <br />protection at these two crossings. The, Public Utilities Commission, California State Building., San <br />Francisco 2., California., should be advised by letter from the Council as soon as possible regarding the <br />City's vierr on this plan, Councilman Stout moved that the priority list be adopted and the proper <br />authorities be notified of the action and the City Manager to recon:wendrhit fund, are to be Used., <br />report to be back in two weeks, seconded by Councilman 71eiss.
