CITY MANAGER'S REPORT ON LIGHTS AT ENTRANCE OF REDWOOD VILLAGE. The Clerk read the City Manager's report wherein it stated that the Pacific Gas and Electric Company installed a 6000 lumen light on the ple across from the entrance. This was -done on Monday, August 6, and the present lighting appears to be adequate. COUNCILMAN STOUT'S REPORT ON THE BRANCH LIBRARY. The Clerk read the following report: The Council Library Committee is pleased to report that the Plans and Specifications for the new Branch Library to be located on the Roosevelt School property, are completed and ready for the calling of bids. The City Council authorized the City Manager, April 23rd last, to employ an architect to prepare the plans and specifications — the firm of Green and Erskine was subsequently employed. The location for this new addition to our Library System was selected by the Library Board and Committee, approved by the Council, as it would serve not only the new Terrace areas but also the older part of the City down to the vicinity of Community Park. The use of the School property thru a lease with the Board of Trustees will be a saving to the taxpayers. In the preparation of the plans and specifications and Architbot and Engineer have worked very closely with the Library Board to obtain for Redwood City a building that would meet the needs of the community and still stay within the limits of the funds available. The funds available are: $25,633.39 Schaberg Fund 129220.00 1944 Bonds $Jj,053.3y TOTAL All frills and extras were left out and economy of design prevailed yet giving the community a Branch Library all of Redwood City should be proud of. Faced with a rising market and possible higher costs the Architect provided three alternates that can be deleted by the City Council should the bids prove higher than funds available. However, it is the hope of the Board and the committee that this will not happen. The alternates arez 1. Deduct block planter and concrete ramp in front - estimated cost $350.00 to $400.00. 2. Omitting a portion of the ramp at the rear and the stairs to the basement, basement doors and windows and compete finishing of basement - estimated cost $1,200.00 - $1..500-00- 3e Omitting folding door between washroom and lounge - estimated cost $150.00 to $200.00 Total estimated cost of alternates - $1,800.00 - $2.9000.00 The plans and specifications have been checked and approved by our Building Iaspector, Mr. Kreiss. The City Attorney has reviewed the specifications and corrections made to his satisfaction. Attached herewith is a letter from the Library Board Chairman, Mr. Patten and minutes of the Board's most recent meeting (August 10, 1956) approving the plans and specifications.
