man Stout then presented the Council with a copy of the plans and specifications. <br />Mr. Erskine was present and stated that the estimated cost is approximately $15.00 per square foot or <br />$379000. Mrs. Muriel Merman shamed the sketch of the building and spoke about the alternates and why <br />they asked for the alternates. Councilman Stout moved authorization of the City Manager to call for <br />bids, the bid to include separate alternates subject to the lease being signed by the School Board and <br />the City, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />Councilman Stout moved to authorize the City Manager to sign the lease with the approval of the City <br />Attorney, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner reported, as chairman of the Transportation Committee, on the findings in regard to the <br />Peninsula Transit Lines. The Committee recommends that they contact the other three cities through <br />which the bus lines operate and go over the whole problem with them. The cities involved are San Carlos, <br />Redwood Cit Menlo Park and Palo Alto. Councilman Britschgi <br />ys hgi moved approval of the Committee request <br />to check with the other cities to see about the possibility of setting a date for a meeting, seconded by <br />Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />CITY ENGINEER REPORT ON SIDEWALKS AT 1180 MAIN STREET. In his report, City Engineer Jain, stated that this <br />sidewalk has again been inspected by the Engineering Department, profiles have been run on the existing <br />curb, and he, personally, again made an inspection of the site. It is his opion that the sidewalk is <br />definitely hazardous throughout its entire length and should be replaced. The curb and pavement are in <br />reasonable good condition and he can see no reason why the sidewalk could not be properly reconstructed. <br />Councilman Weiss moved that the City Engineer be instructed to carry out the provisions of the sidewalk <br />ordinance, seconded by Councilman Stout. Councilman Granger was of the opinion that they should give the <br />gentleman in question the same consideration between now and the next meeting as if they would for a man <br />who was going through bankruptcy. Mr. Jain stated that the Clerk had written a letter back in July and <br />has not received a reply to same. Councilman Britschgi amended the motion to hold this matter up for ,,.. <br />one week and a committee be appointed to talk to the owner in an attempt to have the work done. Councilman <br />Weiss stated that this motion wasn't in order and he suggested that Councilman Britschgi change his <br />motion to table the matter for one week so that the committee could attempt to contact the owner. <br />Councilman Britschgi so changed his amendment to the motion which carried. The Mayor appointed Council- <br />man Spillers to the Committee. <br />TRAFFIC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION REGARDING FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF PARKING IN NEW HALL OF <br />JUSTICE BUILDING AREA AND THE ADOPTION OF A RESOLUTION ESTABL?SHING STOP SIGNS, PARALLEL PARKING, ETC. <br />IN THE SAME VICINITY. The Committee made a further study of the parking problem in the vicinity of the <br />new Hall of Justice building and the following recommendations are made in lieu of the establishment of <br />two-hour parking meters on the north side of Marshall Street between Winslow and Hamilton Streets. <br />1. Establish a white passenger loading zone for a distance of forty feet directly in front of the <br />entrance of the Hall of Justice building. <br />2. Establish a twenty -minute green parking zone west of the proposed passenger loading zone <br />and east of the proposed passenger loading zone. <br />City Attorney Currie announced that these two changes were noted and eliminated from the resolution that <br />was ready fora doption. Councilman Spillers offered RESOLUTION 2082 ESTABLISHING PARKING METERS IN THE <br />VICINITY OF THE NEW HALL OF JUSTICE BUILDING and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Herkner. ■N9 <br />Councilman Granger wanted to know the purpose of the lone green parking zone. Chief Faulstich stated UNA <br />that the place where the fines are paid will be on the first floor and by allowing the green zone <br />people will be able to pay their fines and get out in a short time. The motion carried on roll call. <br />Councilman Granger moved that this same consideration be given to the City Hall and the matter be turned <br />over to the Traffic Fact Finding Committee, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />
