255 <br />grade crossing. This would.result is property flooding when rains are encountered. Mayor Royer inquired <br />whether or not a satisfactory drainage could be installed to take care of this matter. .City Manager <br />suggested that the City Engineer look into this further. Councilman Weiss moved that, in view of <br />engineering features involved, the City Engineer explore the matter further and report back at the <br />September lith meeting, seconed by Councilman Spillers. Councilman Herkner also requested that City <br />Engineer report on the cost to the City to replace driveways and broken sidewalk caused by contractors <br />as referred to in committee report. This was added to motion which carried. Mrs. Carolla was assured <br />that reference to driveways indicated that concrete instead of asphalt was intended. Mrs. Carolla <br />thanked the committee for their cooperation. <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS REPORT ON SIDEWALKS AT 1180 MAIN STREET. Councilman Spillers report included a letter <br />dated August 15th, which reads as follows: <br />r.� <br />"In regards to the sidewalks in front of my property and by the side of mfr showroom <br />at 1180 Main Street. It is my understanding that the city would do something about <br />the curbing which is not in very good condition due to the fact that it is not grated <br />properly. <br />One of the men from the Engineer's office ways going to give me the grades and <br />specifications and I am under the impression that the city was to pay for the new <br />curbing if it was necessary to replace it. <br />If the city will advise me as to their disposition regarding the curbing I shall <br />,instruct my contractor to proceed with the new sidewalks. <br />Thank you for your cooperation in this matter as you consideration had been appreciated." <br />In response to inquiry of Councilman Herkner, City Manager advised that city had been held responsible <br />in some instances. Councilman Spillers moved that City Engineer check into matter further and bring <br />bak his recommendation. Motion seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />REQUEST FOR DANCE PERMIT, CLIFFIS PIT, 46 wILLOW STREET. Attorney Rowell, representing Cliff Huddleton, <br />accepts the recommendation of committee which recently checked into this matter. Mr. Rowell now requests � <br />the following for his client: • <br />1. "That a permit for dancing be granted, on the conditions outlined in the <br />committee report, such permit to be effective as of the date of completion <br />of construction according to the plans as attached. <br />2. That during the period of construction, and for a period not longer than 60 days, <br />applicant be permitted to allow dancing on his outdoor patio. Applicant will . <br />abide by -conditions 2, 5, 6 and 10 as set forth in the committee report, during this <br />temporary, period. Applicant has arranged for off—street parking during this 60 <br />day period in the parking lot of the Safeway Store, 2200 E1 Camino Real. Verifi— <br />cation of this arrangement is attached to this application." <br />After discussion Councilman Spillers moved that request insofar as dancing permit is caoncerned, be <br />referred to Planning Commission who originally denied Use Permit. The balance of the request is again <br />referred to,the committee consisting of City Manager, City Attorney, Police Chief and Fire Chief. <br />Motion seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />Councilman Stout entered meeting at 9:00 P. M. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE TENTATIVE MAP OF OAKLEY TRACT (Extend Rosemary Avenue from <br />Virginia to Valota Road). Mr, R. F. Kilkline, 1627 Virginia Avenue, addressed the Council at length <br />stating his reasons in protest to the proposed tentative map of Oakley Tract, especially the street <br />opening which would change his property into a corner lot. Mr. Kilkline presented a petition carrying <br />the signatures of 112 residents and property ovmers, all of whom resided on Virginia and Hampton ..�. <br />Avenues. Petition reads as follows: <br />..r <br />"We, the undersigned residents of Virginia Avenue and adjoining streets petition the <br />City council to reject any planned subdivision, map or plan lines for Block 17, <br />Valota Park, which involves a through street from Virginia Avenue to Valota Road. <br />We bought homes in good faith in a planned subdivision believing that our neighborhood <br />would not be cut up by new streets. Such a new street would diminish our property <br />values, would force new and unplanned traffic through our neighborhood, would <br />endanger our children, and would destroy the peasce and quiet which we thought we <br />were buying when we moved to Redwood City in the first place. <br />
