The Clerk read the following letter:
This is in answer to you letter of June 2£3, 1956, which is in reply to ours of May 3 and
concerned the improvement to the protection of the railroad grade crossings in Redwood City. ••+
We note in your letter that the City Council of Redwood City has indicated a willingness
to provide funds to participate in the cost of the installation of automatic crossing gates
at five crossings. It is also noted the Council feels that two additional crossings
should be protected at the sole expense of the Southern Pacific Company.
It is our understanding that the southern Pacific Company has prepared estimates of cost
for the various crossing gate installations in Redwood City and we are requesting that
their representatives contact you and negotiate an agreement for the protection of these
crossings.
No Council action was necessary on the above communication.
CITY ATTORNEY RECOMMENDS ANNEXATION OF RESERVOIR SITE. The Clerk read the following letter su`mitted by
the City Attorney:
At the August 15, 1956 meeting of the County Planning Commission, said Commission
granted a use permit to the City of Redwood City to allow construction of the two
11,000,000 gallon reservoirs on the Sequoia Reservoir site, subject to the condition
that the tanks not exceed thirty-five (35) feet in heith and that painting and
planting control are reserved in the staff of the County Planning Commission.
This recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of the County for
their action and attention.
It now appears that there will also be a quarry permit and a use permit to operate
a quarry required, which will extend the time within which actual construction could
commence to a period of four or five months, even though jurisdiction of the County over
this matter may be questionable. It is the suggestion of this office that action be
initiated by the Council of the City to annex this area to the City of Redwood City,
together with the easement which connects it to the present city limits, so that
there will be no need to apply for further permits.
Yours very truly,
Chester A.
