Hororable City Council
Redwood City, California
Gentlemen: Re: Farm Hill No. 2
We are very much concerned that homes are being occupied in Farm Hill No. 2
subdivision prior to construction of the -required interceptor sewer to be built to connect
with the existing interceptor sewer in Virginia Avenue.
It was understood, at the time of approval of the final map of Farm Hill No. 2
on May 7, 1956s that a 12 inch sanitary sewer would be built from the intersection of
Carson Street and Fernisde Street to Virginia Avenue, a distance of approximately 3500
feet, before homes could be occupied in this area.
We approved the construction of a 12 inch sanitary sewer in Foothill Street
and one block of Carson Street about a year ago, to connect to the existing 8 inch
sanitary sewer at this point, and allowed a maximum of 100 homes in Farm Hill No. 1 to be
connected to this sewer main.
Plans have been approved by the Engineering Department for construction of the
additional 3500 feet of sewer main, and it is our understanding that a contract has been
let for its construction, but no work on this project has commended to date. mod
Oddstad Homes have already occupied about 20 homes, and more homes are being
moved into daily. This ohly come to our attention when water meters to serve these homes
in Farm Hill No. 2 were requested by the subdivider.
We do not wish to assume the responsibility for allowing up to 400 additional
homes to be connected into the existing sewer mains in the Westwood Terrace and Redwood
Terrace subdivisions, particular=ly when the rainy season is approaching, and all sanitary
sewers will be overloaded because of infiltration which can not be controlled. It is our
opinion that this interceptor sewer could have been completed prior to the completion of
homes in Farm Hill No. 2. Unfortunately some of the sanitary sewers in Farm Hill No. 2
have not been completed.. and there is always the chance of excessive storm Rater
infiltration such as has happened in the past.
Very truly yours,
GLENN M. JAIN, City Engineer
Councilman Weiss announced that the Dumbarton Fair Oaks Fire Association will hold their meeting on
Thurdday at 8 P. M. in the City Manager's office.
Councilman Stout moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried.
Meeting adjourned 11:18 P.
