u <br />10 The Mayor asked Mr. Kimball to check into -this -matter and make a report and send this report to the <br />Council before next Monday. <br />Councilman Stout moved that after Mr. Kimball makes his report that the City Manager anser this letter <br />stating that the Council feels that this letter is unfounded and the people are still being bothered <br />by the balls, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner stated that he would like to have a recommendation, possibly by the engineer, as <br />to how these balls can best be kept from going over the fence. The Mayor asked the City Manager to <br />get the proper person to make a report. This was followed by discussion. <br />CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING CONSTRUCTION OF POLICE BUILDING. The City Manager submitted the following <br />report: <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Redwood City, California <br />Gentlemen: <br />. Re: Construction of Police Building <br />The Council will recall that at the time the present architect was employed, the <br />construction cost of the police building was estimated at $130,000. <br />In a letter under date of September 27, 1956,, Mr. Nobler advises that, due to the <br />increased cost of labor and materials, his estimate now is $169,500. This, of course, <br />is exclusive of architect's fees, new furniture, and other unforseen incidentals. <br />The following table indicates the total estimated cost of the building completely <br />equiped for occupancy. A. ROLISON, City Manager <br />Councilman Spillers moved that they go ahead and advertise for bids. City Attorney Costello stated <br />that it would be better to hold this over for one week. Councilman Spillets withdrew his motion and <br />then moved that this be carries on the agenda for one week* seconded by Councilman Feiss and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner was of the opinion that the Council should look at this matter at a study meeting. <br />The Mayor informed Councilman Herkner that they had a meeting while he was away an a vacation. The <br />Council had not been able to find anything that could be deleted. <br />Councilman Granger entered the meeting at 8:30 P. M. <br />CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING PrR=T TO PICK UP AND HAUL RUBBISH IN THE CITY LIMITS BY WALDEN H. PARKER. <br />In his reports the City Manager stated that when this permit was first issured, Mr. Parker was doing <br />occasional hauling on special orders but since that time has deveoped a reg-d1ar scheduled route for <br />pickups. The City Attorney advises that this is in violation of our agreement with the San Mateo <br />Scavenger ComparW,* and it is therefore recommended that his application for renewal of the permit be <br />denied.
