I 6 <br />Councilman Royer reported the thinking of the Beautification Committee and he stated that they had two <br />possible sites in mind, however, they thought -it better to erect the sign on the present property <br />rater than store the sign until the proper site is located. Councilman hoyer moved that the sign be <br />erected on the site propsed by the Standard Oil,Company, seconded by Councilman Jones. Standard Oil Company to allow extensive remodelling of gas station on condition that the most <br />notherly driveway on E1 Camino Real either be constructed 20' away from the south end of <br />curb return or eliminated altogether. <br />No Council action was taken on the use permits. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS, COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT HEADS. <br />!" °n <br />Councilman Spillers asked about continuation of Travelers Insurance to employees after they leave the City <br />payroll. It was explained that these employees may convert their policy if they apply within 30 days <br />after their termination with the City. In most cases the cost is so great that the employees do not <br />convert their policy. <br />Councilman Britschgi asked that the matter of the Bourquin property be removed from the agenda. The <br />appraisal is out of line with the Council's thinking and he moved that the Bourquin item be dropped, <br />seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br />Councilman Granger referred to an article appearing in the local newspaper in regard to why Whipple Avenue <br />was choosen in place of Hopkins Avenue as the service road to the proposed new Bayshore Freeway. He was <br />of the opinion that someone should get the facts as to why the State Highway officials recommended <br />Whipple Avenue in place of Hopkins Avenue and he moved that this matter be turned over to the City <br />Manager to do it himself or designate this to someone else, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. This <br />was followed by discussion after which the motion carried. rsti <br />Councilman Granger stated that the County is conducting a centennial and since Redwood City is the <br />County seat the City should take an interest in the matter and notify the County of their interest. <br />Councilman Granger moved that a letter be written to the board of Supervisors telling them of the <br />City's interest in the matter and offering every assistance in the matter, seconded by Councilman <br />Jones and carried. <br />Councilman Granger spoke in regard to appointing members of the War Memorial Building Committee to the <br />Veterans Memorial Building Commission and he so moved. This was followed by a lengthy discussion <br />after which Councilman Granger withdrew his motion. <br />Councilman Stout referred to the minutes of January 16th, page 9, and asked for a clarification as to <br />where the driveways were to be located at 213 James Avenue. It developed that Councilman Stout had <br />looked at the wrong location. ,," <br />Councilman Stout stated that on December 5th he had made a report on the Branch Library, and the City Mai <br />Attorney, at that time, had been asked to make a report in regard to a proposed school agreement. The <br />City attorney stated that he made a report to the Council on the use of City money,�hen building on <br />leased property, and he do not understand that he was supposed to check into the school agreement. <br />City Attorney wqs instructed to report next week. <br />mom <br />aril <br />City Attorney Currie stated that he was ready to proceed with the condemnation of Butts property and Davies <br />property on Pennsylvania Avenue in regard to the parking district. Councilman Spillers offered <br />RESOLUTION 1968 AUTHORIZING CONDEPMIATION SUIT ON BUTTS AND DAVIES PROPERTY ON PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE <br />and moved its adoption$ seconded by Councilman Jones and carried on roll call. <br />City Attorney Currie asked the Council if they intended to place the matter of the police building on the <br />ow__ <br />
