Councilman,Herkner moved to close the public hearing, <br />seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner moved that the rezoning be allowed subject to restrictions to be agreed upon by the City <br />Attorney from the report of the -Highlands Community Club. The City Attorney stated that he could not set <br />up an agreement if the Council can not instruct him what restrictions are to be required. He inquired <br />whether they wanted to limit the restrictions to the items stated in Section B, numbers 1 and 3 of the <br />i.. Committee report. The Club was in favor of that type of deed restriction. Councilman Britschgi suggested <br />that he meet with the City Attorney along with Councilman Stout and Ron Fields and that the group determine <br />the restrictions. City Attorney will,ten prepare the necessary ordinance. Councilman Stout seconded the <br />motion as changed which carried on roll call with Mayor Royer being noted absent. <br />REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT REQUESTED SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD to be stationed at the corner of <br />Roosevelt Avenue and Hudson Street at the new Hawes Park School. Mrs. Kathleen Mahaney appeared before the <br />Council and asked for help. The School does not have anyone to help the children across the street. They <br />do not even have children acting as Traffic Commissioners. Councilman Spillers moved to refer this to the <br />Traffic Fact Finding Committee and he authorized the City Manager to hire a school crossing guard immediately., <br />Police Chief Faulstich stated that this is back to the old routine. They do not have funds in the budget <br />and he strongly feels that the school should participate in this on a 50-50 basis. Councilman Stout <br />seconded the motion. This was followed by discussion in regard to painting the street at Iris Street and. <br />Roosevelt Avenue. Councilman Britschgi stated that if they hire achool crossing guard that they not paint <br />the street and -have the children go down to where the crossing guard will be stationed to cross the street. <br />The motion carried. <br />Mayor Granger asked that the new Assembly man take up the matter of changing the law so the schools can <br />participate in the expense of hiring school crossing guards. This was followed by discussion. The matter <br />of school participation was referred to the City Attorney. <br />REPORT ON B ID OPENING, TRUCK FOR WATER DEPARTMENT. The following bids were received f or the purchase of a 4 <br />cubic yard dump truck for the water departments <br />Towne Motor Company, 1956 Ford <br />Davies Auto Company, 1957 Chevrolet <br />Hoyt Pontiac, GMC Model 353-8 <br />Ferris Miles, Inc., 1957 Dodge <br />$ 3030.95 <br />3,463.64 <br />3,580.00 <br />4,079.25 <br />Davies Auto Company also quoted a price of $3,288.64 on a 1956 model Chevrolet "subject to availability". <br />The City Manager reported that Mr. Davies declined to give any possible date of delivery for the 1956 model <br />Chevrolet. Since the Water Superintendent advises that this equipment is urgently needed, and undue delay <br />would mean costly repairs to existing equipment, the City Manager, concurred in by the Water Superintendent, <br />recommended that the bid of Toone Motor -Company be accepted. <br />There was considerable discussion as to what constituted the latest model, depreciation of 1956 equipment <br />over 1957, and also similar conditions which occurred a couple of years ago wherein the Council awarded the <br />6.. <br />bid to the only company bidding on the latest years model. <br />Councilman Stout moved, on what he believed to be the latest model, to award the bid to Davies Auto <br />Company for the 1957 Chevrolet. Councilman Weiss, based on the previous action of the Council on a <br />�•• similar matter and the difference of $133 andon the basis of amorizttion, sedonded the motion. Councilman <br />Britschgi brought up the matter of the Pontiac a few years ago and the fact that they did not purchase the <br />Pontiac and stated the reasons behind the Council's action at the time. The motion carried. <br />AUTHORIZE CITY CLERK TO ACCEPT DEED FROM NICHOLAS & CAROLINE M. MARCELLI for a 27+ strip of land (portion of <br />Lot 14, Block E, Woodside Acres Map No. 1).
