Councilman Spillers stated Mr. Hanlon's property was contiguous <br />to the City limits and he would be willing to put up a bond to guarantee annexation at a later date. <br />Discussion followed regarding the availability of sewer connections which at the present time is not <br />possible. City Attorney called attention to ordinance prohibiting septic tanks within the city. If USA <br />the Council desires to adopt a different policy it would be necessary to amend the ordinance should <br />Mr. Hanlon's property be annexed to the City. <br />Water Superintendent Winter advised that a connection at this point would be to the pumping line. <br />He also suggested proper clearance with Mr. Howell of the Health Department. After further discussio, <br />Councilman Spillers moved that water connection be allowed subject to a satisfactory bond, seconded <br />by Councilman Granger. City Engineer Jain was of the opinion that the granting of this request would <br />establish a precedent and would be followed by many requests. It was noted that denials were based on <br />the fact that applicants were not located contiguous to the city and were not considered hardship <br />cases. On roll call, motion carried, Councilman Herkner and. Stout voting NO. <br />SOFTBALL REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, 1957. Councilman Spillers recommended that the North Pacific Reginal <br />Championships be invited for next year, calling attention to the fact that approximately $500 was <br />turned back from last year's program. After discussion, Councilman Spillers moved that the Council <br />encourage the Chamber of Commerce to support the program for 1957, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and <br />carried. <br />BENJAMIN L. MILLER APPAL TO PLANNING COMMISSION DENIAL OF VARIANCE TO CONSTRUCT GARAGE AT CORNER LOT <br />765 UPLAND ROAD. City Attorney Costello advised that Council need not hold hearing. The proper <br />procedure would be to refer back to the Planning Commission with recommendation. Under the conditions <br />of zoning ordinance, the Board of Adjustments must make certain findings. He added, however, that <br />in view of previous action by the Council in similar cases, he would recommend a hearing be held <br />in this case. Councilman Weiss moved that matter be set for hearing in view of the above. Motion <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REAFFIRM THEIR FORMER RECOLMENDATION TO ABANDON ANAMOR TRIANGLE AND WALK - <br />WAX, Recreation Superintendent Mortion advised there had been considerable trouble in the area, and <br />the residents were anxious to close this area. Councilman Spillers is still asking for estimates of <br />cost to turf and install sprinklers and so moved, City Manager to bring back a report. Motion <br />seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br />TRAFFIC COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION INSTALL "YIELD RIGHT-OF-7iAY" SIGN ON N. W. CORNER ALAMEDA INTERSECTION <br />WITH FERNSIDE. Councilman Britschgi moved approval, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. rw <br />ATHERTON-SEQUOIA DRAINAGE DISTRICT. City Engineer and City Manager recommend against diversion of storm <br />...ri <br />waters from this proposed district into the Woodside Road culvert which would, in their opinion, <br />cause a serious overload. This opinion is also concurred in by Mr. Paul Adamson, Consulting <br />Engineer. City Engineer recommends that an official protest be made by the City Council to San <br />W" <br />Mateo County and the Town of Atherton. Councilman Spillers moved approval of the recommendation., <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. Now <br />VALOTA,ROAD-;iOODSIDE ROAD INTERSECTION. City Engineer presented a sketch of proposed realignment of <br />Valota Road to connect with Nimitz Avenue, to be paid from gas tax funds. Inasmuch as plans are <br />now being completed for improvements in the Kentfield-Palm-Valota improvement district, Mr. Jain <br />request council action as soon as possible so plans can be revised before the actual formation of <br />W III IRA9!'
