one-way streets. Councilmari Weiss spoke about one-way streats or a possible alternate
of continuing Harrison Avenue and Madison Avenue as through streets. He read the
following prepared statement:
"As a stop-gap this is the only logical method of approach as I see it. However I
want to say that it would be a fallacy to tak e this action and then sit back
complacently and await further developments.
If the problem is to be solved, we must certainly pursue it until a sound and com-
plete solution is evolved. , '
' I therefor recommend that not only must we adopt this measure, but we must request
the City Manager, the P,anning Commission, the Traffic Committee and the City
II1gineer to pursue exploration of the problem as expeditiously as possible to deter-
mine whether a logical and feasible one-way street pattern can be evolved, also
whether any alternate solutions can be found such as widening and developing
Jefferson Avenue into a six lane expressway by purchasing a11 properties on one side
or the other of the thoroughfare.

There is no question but that as development in the f othills continues, Jefferson
Avenue trafi'ic will continue to increase and make a proper solution ever more urgent.
Louis Yyeiss, Councilman.
Councilman leiss offered introduction of the ordinance. ouncilman Stout was of the
opinion that James and Jefferson Avenues should be made one-way streets at a later
date. They should give this new idea a chance and if it didnft work then give
consideration to the one-way streets. The motion was secDnded by Councilman Herkner.
Councilman Granger spoke about the problem the City might be faced with in regard to
'I the a11ey running from Adams to Fulton Street. He was concerned with the p arking
, situation in the alleys. The Traffic Committee will check into this matter and if
I, it becomes necessary they will make a recommendation to the Council. The motion
' carried.

', Councilman 4deiss moved that this subject matter not be allowed to lay dormant but

that this matter be refered to the City Manager, City Enineer and Traffic Committee
to find a solution looking to the future. The Mayor was of the opinion that the
Traffic Committee is already looking and ehecking into this. The only other solution
is to widen Jefferson Avenue. Councilman Weiss was of the opinion that they had not
one into this matter completely. The Mayor asked Councilman eiss if he would give
consideration to requesting the Traffic Committee to recommend whether or not theg
should hire a traffic expert. Councilman Weiss moved to accept the Mayors recom-
mendation. `1'his was followed by discussion. Councilman Stout seconded the motion
which earried.
RffiOLUTION ESTABLISHIidG STOP SICrNS OPT HA.RRISON AT MYRTLE, AND ON JEFFERSON AVENUE AT ALAMEDA
DE LAS PUi'rAS. Councilman Weymouth offered RESOLUTION 2280 ESTABLISHING AND DECIARING
CERTAIN DESIGNATED ENTRANCES TO DESIGN ATID INTERSECTIONS TO BE STOP ENTRANCES and

moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll call, Councilman
Spillers bein noted absent.
INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE REVISING WATEH COrJNECTION CHARGES. Councilman Herkner moved
that the City Attorrtey be instructed to prepare the necessary resolution and bring
same back at the next ouncil meeting, July 15th, seconded by Councilman eiss and , `
carried. The proposed ordinance will be studied further before introduction.
RESOLUTION GRANTING VARIANCE TO F. ANDERSON ALLOiiJIING FIVE FOOT RAR YARD. The Clerk read
the title of the resolution. Councilman Herler offered RESOLUTION 2281 GRANTING
VARItNCE FROM CERTAIN PRQVISIONS OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THL CITY OF RIDWOOD CITY
and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman eiss and carried on roll call, Council-
man Spillers being noted absent.
,.,...a..-.... ;..:;>.,,a. .r..,a , ..T. ... .
