Mayor Buchan declared a recess at 9:25 P.M. <br /> Meeting reconvened at 9:33 P.M. <br /> The Council discussed the need to provide adequate time for the citizens who <br /> wished to speak as well as adequate time for the presentation by the Police <br /> Department. <br /> M/S: CLAIRE/LA BERGE TO POSTPONE THE POLICE PRESENTATION UNTIL THE REGULAR <br /> MEETING OF FEBRUARY 14, 1994 <br /> CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 94-031 <br /> Ed Bailey, 3215 Page Street, Redwood City, spoke in favor of Community <br /> Policing, and suggested that more information about how the Police Department <br /> works be disseminated. <br /> Mayor Buchan called on Kathleen, Jenny and Timmy Dulik who had submitted <br /> speaker's cards, but apparently they had left the Meeting <br /> Oscar Vilorio, 565 Douglas Avenue, Redwood City, submitted petitions with 580 <br /> signatures in support of the Gunfire Location System. Mr. Vilorio stated that <br /> the System would allow the Police to identify the areas where gunfire was most <br /> prevalent, and if the Police could concentrate their efforts in those areas <br /> during the year, perhaps the serious problems at holiday time would be abated. <br /> Juan Guerrero, spoke in favor of the Gunshot Location System. <br /> Hector Guerrero, 2504 Spring Street, Redwood City, spoke in favor of the <br /> Gunshot Location System, and urged Council to schedule another Study Session <br /> on the random gunfire issue only. <br /> Amanda, Kenny and Thomas Guerrero submitted speaker's cards but did not wish <br /> to speak. <br /> Michael Madrigal , 2742 Fair Oaks Avenue, unincorporated area of Redwood City, <br /> described the gunshots that hit his house and urged a campaign against random <br /> gunfire be broadcast in Spanish and advertised in the newspaper in Spanish. <br /> Mr. Madrigal described the shootings that erupted over graffiti and urged <br /> Council to lobby the NRA for gun education for public safety. Mr. Madrigal <br /> stated the Gunfire Location System would help considerably. <br /> Councilwoman Gasparini described Redwood City's aggressive anti-graffiti <br /> campaign and urged everyone to call the Hotline, 780-7304 and immediately <br /> report graffiti where and whenever they see it. <br /> Amador Bustos, 3090 Goodwin Avenue, Redwood City, (Assistant to the City <br /> Manager Centeno interpreted for Mr. Bustos who spoke in Spanish to the <br /> Council ) asked Council to use radio and TV to describe the dangers of random <br /> gunfire and to communicate with the Spanish speaking community. Mr. Bustos <br /> stressed the importance of educating people to these dangers.
