requested that the Police do something about the problems in Stustaft Park.
Mayor Buchan called on Geri Mayers who had apparently left the meeting.
Michael Verdone, 815 Arlington, described some positive aspects of the Redwood
City Police Department.
Enrique Curincita, 535 Buckeye Street, Redwood City spoke about how beautiful
Redwood City used to be and how important it was to work together.
Irma Rios, 719 Stambaugh, Redwood City, thanked Chief Guardino and her
Community Policing Officers Feeney and Mateo for their quick response to her
requests.
Roy Curincita, 700 Beech Street, Redwood City, stated that Community Policing
Mateo are doing a good job, and suggested that Police Dispatchers not ask so
many questions before they send out the police.
LouAnn Frazier, 22 Greenwood Lane, Redwood City, thanked City Manager Everett
for changing the agenda, and stated how proud she was of her Community
Policing Officers Mateo and Feeney. Mrs. Frazier stated the Gunfire Location
System could be very helpful to the Police Department.
Frank Ambruso, 226 F Street, advised that the NRA is active in gun safety
training and advised he would provide that information to the Council .
Pat Dixon, 16 Admiralty Place, advised that there is a need for gun education
at the school level .
Salvador Sandoval , 2508 Spring Street, Redwood City, spoke in favor of the
Gunfire Location System being deployed in the eastern part of Redwood City,
not throughout the City; and how over a long period of time, the System would
be able to track the "hot spots" the Police should respond to. Mr. Sandoval
stated he and his neighbors live in terror from random gunfire and the Gunfire
Location System was a low cost way to address the problem. Mr. Sandoval
stated that the money coming to the City from Proposition 172 approved by the
voters of California last November was his and his neighbor's money and it
should come back to their neighborhood. Mr. Sandoval asked that the Council
dedicate a Town Meeting in his community to hear the concerns of his neighbors
before any decision was made on how to spend Proposition 172 money.
Some Council Members stated that the Meeting held tonight in the Fox Theatre
was the Town Meeting dedicated to hearing residents regarding the dangers of
random gunfire in the eastern part of Redwood City and the Gunfire Location
System that Mr. Sandoval and others had requested at the January 10, 1994
Council Meeting. The Council discussed the extremely effective presentation
made by citizens at this Meeting. Some Council Members advised that it was
important not to wait for technology to address the problem, but to get
involved now and come forward with information regarding the people
responsible for the dangerous gunfire.
Study Session Minutes
February 7, 1994
MINUTE BOOK NO. 52 Page 6
Page No. 130
