<br />Redwood City Council
<br />April 7, 1958, 8:00 P.M.
<br />Invocation was lead by Reverend Wilbur Westerdahl, Peninsula Covenant Church.
<br />ON ROLL CALL THE following were noted present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D. Herkner, Hiram S.
<br />Stout, Louis Weiss, Ray Weymouth, Mayor William H. Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present
<br />were City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, City Attorney Robert J. Costello, Build-
<br />ing Inspector S. H. Kreiss, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi, Police Chief William Faulstich, Planning Director
<br />William Rodgers' Water Superintendent H. L. Winter, Police Captain Theodore Moudakas, Assessor -Auditor
<br />John J. Brophy and Senior Stenographer Clerk Vivian Holmquist.

<br />Councilman Stout moved approval of the minutes of March 17th, 24th, and 31st as mailed, seconded by Coun-
<br />cilman Herkner and carried.

<br />Councilman Herkner, on behalf of the council members, presented Mayor Royer with an engraved pen set for
<br />his work as MAyor during the past two years.
<br />The City Clerk aftinistered loyalty oaths to members of the South County Amateur Radio Society, W67VPJ,
<br />CITY ENGINEER VERBAL REPORT REGARDING SAFEGUARDING BRIDGE AT VALOTA AND RED90CD AVENUE. A fence of per-
<br />manent nature has been erected and the other matters arebeing investigated as fast as possible.
<br />CITY ENGINEER REPORT REGARDING CLINTON, DUANE AND REDWOOD CULVERTS,, AND RETAINING WALL BETWEEN GORDON AND
<br />REDWOOD AVENUE CULVERT. Councilman Herkner moved approval of the Clinton Street bridge as indicated
<br />by the City Engineer's report (City will contribute an estimated 2/3 of the total cost, including
<br />the 1944 bond funds ($3,000), with the remaining 1/3 to be assessed against the property owners in
<br />this block), seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll call, Councilman Stout voting no and
<br />Councilman Spillersbeing noted absent.
<br />Councilman Granger moved approval of the Duane Street bridge as indicated by the City Engineer's re-
<br />port (City frill contribute an estimated 2/3 of the total cost of the culvert required for a standard
<br />34 foot residential pavement (between curbs), plus the estimated cost of that 22 foot difference be-
<br />tween a standard residential pavement and the existing 56 foot pavement, including the 1944 bond.funds
<br />($3,Ooo), with the remaining 1/3 to be assessed against the property owners in this block), seconded
<br />by Councilman Weymouth and carried on roll call, Councilman. Stout voting no and Councilman Spillers
<br />being noted absent.
<br />Councilman Weymouth moved approval of Redwood Avenue bridge ( City will contribute the entire cost of
<br />this culvert and the required retaining wall between this culvert and the Gordon Street culvert from
<br />1944 bond funds ($8,000), from the General Fund, and from gas tax funds), seconded by Councilman Weiss
<br />and carried.
<br />Councilman Weymouth moved to refer the matter of the $24,463 which was appropriated in the 1957-58
<br />miscellaneous budget for allocation to the above mentioned culverts to the City Manager for budget
<br />study time, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
<br />Councilman Weymouth moved that the firm of Currie and Lebsack be given the legal contract (2%) on the
<br />two assessment districts, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried on roll call, Councilman Stout
<br />voting no and Councilman Spillers being noted absent.
