Minutes of the Regular Meeting
<br />Redwood City Council
<br />January 19, 1959, 8:00 P.M.
<br />Invocation was led by Reverend Wilbur Westerdahl, Peninsula Covenant Church.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D. Herkner, John S.
<br />Rosselli, Robert V. Spillers, Ray Weymouth, Mayor William H. Rayer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Council-
<br />man Louis Weiss was noted absent on account of illness. Also present were City Manager J. E. Neal,
<br />City Attorney Robert J. Costello, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain., Police Chief William Faulstich., Police
<br />Captain Theodore Moudakas, Assessor -Auditor John J. Brophy, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter., Assistant
<br />Building Inspector Be C. Gyselbrecht, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, Assis tant
<br />Planning Director Leonard Knittel., Planning Commissioner James MacDonald and Deputy City Clerk Vivian
<br />Holmquist.
<br />PUBLIC HEARING ON THE APPLICATION OF ALFRED PLAEHN TO A100 SECTIONS 4.1, 4.2., 4.3 AND 4.4 OF ZONING ORDINANCE
<br />NO. 600 TO PROVIDE FOR THE REZONING OF A PORTION OF BLOCK 13, LENOLT, (Arguello Street north of Whipple
<br />Avenue) FRX R-2 AND C-1 TO R-4 DISTRICT$ and the Planning Commission recommendation thereon to rezone
<br />said property to R-3 District. The affidavit of notice was ordered filed. Councilman Rosselli moved to
<br />continue the public hearing for three minutes, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
<br />Charles Reifenrath, representing the insurance agents., presented the City with a refund check in the amount
<br />of $4042.08 from Hartford Fire Insurance Company on the 1956-57 comprehensive liability policy.
<br />Councilman Rosselli moved approval of the minutes of January 5th and January 12th as mailed, seconded by
<br />Councilman Spillers and carried.
<br />Continuation of public hearing on the application of Alfred Plaehn. The Clerk read the letter of protest
<br />,„W^ from Mr. & Mrs. Nick Cirola, 2317 Roosevelt Avenue, owners of property at 134 A Street. There was also
<br />a letter of protest to the R-4 rezoning signed by 12 property owners in the neighborhood. Mr. Plaehn
<br />agreed to go along with the R-3 rezoning and the neighbors present stated that they did not object to
<br />the R-3 rezoning. Councilman Spillers moved that the public hearing be closed, seconded by Councilman
<br />Granger and carried.
<br />Councilman Weymouth moved to approve the rezoning of the property to R-3 District and instructed the
<br />City Attorney to prepare the necessary ordinance, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
<br />PUBLIC HEARING ON DUANE STREET CULVERT IMPROVEMENTS. The affidavits of posting, publication and mailing
<br />were ordered filed. There being no protests, written or oral., Councilman Spillers moved that the public
<br />hearing be closed, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried.
<br />Councilman Spillers moved adoption of RESOLUTION NO. 2629 CONFIRMING ASSESS14ENTS AND ASSESSMENT DIAGRAM
<br />AND OVERRULING PROTESTS, DUANE STREET CULVERT, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried on roll call.,
<br />Councilman Weiss being noted absent.
<br />The City Engineer recaamnended that the above improvements be accepted subject to correction of any
<br />defects in materials and workmanship which might appear within one year from date of acceptance by the
<br />City Council. Councilman Rosselli moved to accept the work subject to the correction of defects in
<br />materials and workmanship appearing within one year., seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried.
<br />{� PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION TO DENY APPLICATION OF JOHNSON, GLEBA., BROVPN, BARATS
<br />AMID CAMERON TO AMEND SECTIONS 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 AND 4.4 OF ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 600 TO PROVIDE FOR THE RE-
<br />ZONING OF LOTS 2., 4., 6 AND 83 BLOCK D, WOODSIDE ACRES NO. 1., (Gordon Street between Redwood, and Palm
<br />Avenue} FROM R-2 TO R -3-G DISTRICT. The affidavit of mailing notice was ordered filed. The Clerk
<br />read the letter of protest from Mr. & Mrs. Frank LaRocca. After considerable discussion, Councilman
<br />Rosselli moved that the public hearing be closed., seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
