Chandler � 401 MARSHALL STREET <br /> Marguerite Leipzig <br /> Bob Norr(s BUDGET STUDY SESSION "'"� <br /> � <br /> May 19, 1979 „� <br /> Budget Study Session <br /> The Council of the City of Redwood City met on this date at 9:08 a.m. <br /> with Mayor Barrett presiding. <br /> Councilmen present: Biagi , Bury, Chandler, Leipzig, Norris, Rhodes <br /> and Mayor Barrett <br /> Councilmen absent: None <br /> Officials and staff present: City Manager Fales, Director of Finance <br /> Ference, Assistant City Manager Smith and Fire Chief Keller, Director <br /> of Public Works Pusich, Director of Parks and Recreation Weeks, City <br /> Librarian Vollmayer, Deputy City Clerk Reggetts <br /> COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT pp. 31-38 <br /> COMMUNITY PROMOTION <br /> Mayor Ba rret� referred to the Chamber of Commerce proposal dated � <br /> May 11, 1979 which had been carried over from the previous study � <br /> session for consideration at this time. <br /> City Manager Fales noted that a supplementary memorandum from the <br /> Chamber dated May 19, 1979 had been distributed to the Council <br /> this morning, providing more details of their proposal . <br /> Bob Foulk, President, Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of <br /> Commerce, indicated that the proposed Office of Business Develop- <br /> ment, at an average two hours per day, would allow them to take <br /> a more active role in bringing more industry and commerce to the <br /> City and assist existing firms with plans to relocate or expand. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the need to work out an agreement <br /> between the City and the Chamber of Commerce to cover the specific <br /> program goals and objectives. Mayor Barrett also suggested a <br /> review of the business license structure which has not changed <br /> in twelve years, with an eye to additional revenue, as well as <br /> more equity in the setup. <br /> Les Riddell , Executive Vice President, Chamber of Commerce, <br /> stated that the part time assistance would free him to spend more <br /> time on fund-raising activities. <br /> MOTION: Councilman Leipzig moved, seconded by Councilman Biagi , <br /> to direct staff to prepare an agreement with the Chamber of <br /> Commerce which would establish its goals and objectives, and <br /> to include as the City's contribution 13% of the revenue from <br /> Transient Occupancy Tax for this year. <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> (P�INUTE ORDER N0. 79-101) <br /> Budget Study <br /> 5/19/79 <br /> , .; <br /> t' ' <br /> � <br />
