18 8 .
.-3 -;
; Oral Communications (continued) -.
t
; Kenneth Sanders, 23 Compass Drive, inquired as to
; certa n aspects of, the handling of the fire by the
firefighters and suggested using an unused park
9 site and trailer to establish a temporary fire
# station at Redwood Shores. Assistant City Manager '°'"
Smith advised that the contingency plan developed
; a short time ago indicated a cost of about $180,000 .
; a year far manpower plus the cost of buildin and
equipment. Chief Keller advised that the $7,000
engine required must be ordered at least a year
 in advance.
t Discussion followed concerning the desirability of
; giving an alarm immediately; the fact that some
facilities such as fire stations might be needed
i in a newly developed area before homes are built;
i the proram planned for the establishment of a
fire station in Redwood Shores; and the heavy
 expense of an interim station.
Mayor Weymouth advised again that a complete in-
4 vestigation of the July 19 fire is under way.
2. John Crevelt, 143 Mitchell Way, Save Our Recrea-
' ona LancTs, referred to his remarks made to
Council on July 8, 197, regarding the School
Board' s advertisement for bids on the Santa Clara
t Avenue property and his desire that the City ob-
tain the property for recreational use.
Mr. Crevelt reported that he has 3,000 signatures
: on a request to the School Board urging that the `"`
property be made available for use for sports
fields and recreational purposes. Mr. Crevelt
stated that he plans to present the request to
the School Board at their meeting of July 24 at
which time bids received in response to their
advertisement are to be opened. He noted that
the minimum acceptable bid is set at $600,000.
Mr. Crevelt commented on the long range plans and .
priorities of the City with regard to development
and acquisition of park property and sugested
; revisions might make possible the lease purchase
of the Santa Clara Avenue property. Mr. Crevelt
was advised by Council and staff that the figures
relating to park acquisition in the five-year
capital improvement program are tentative and
 not funded.
Mr. Crevelt suggested that the State and County
could each contribute a quarter of the total cost
of the land. In response to Council questions,
Mr. Crevelt acknowledged that neither body has "'"'
agreed to do so, that he has not discussed the
` matter with the County, and that it is unlikely
Q the County would be interested in participating
in such a purchase. He acknowledged also that
the property is not within the City limits and
r
 -11
Reg.Mt .
 7227

r
.
_ __ _
.;,.,..,„ -..------------ -- — -_,- _ ..
