" elements of the Genera,l Plan.
Council commended staff for the outstanding and pro-
fessional report.
A lengthy discussion followed, and Director of Public
Works Pusich responded to questions by Council. He
elaborated on one of the disadvantages of a parallel
link to Bayshore, as listed in his memorandum, which
is the possible postponement of the decision to widen
Bayshore from Whipple Avenue to the southerly San Mateo
County line. He explained that plans to widen this
stretch by one lane may proceed this year, after some
postponements for various reasons, but if an alternate
route is put in, the widening may be forestalled again.
He noted that the Tra.ffic IIZgineer' s report estimated
that the Bayshore Freeway will be at capacity as soon
 as the widening is completed.
City Manager Fales commented on some of the possibilities
that will be under consideration after completion of the
bridge, such as a trans-bay bus service, since a large
*!^ number of people living in the East Bay area work on
the Peninsula.
feeder roads approaching the bridge . He asked whether
Redwood City would o along with the two-lane road into
the Harbor area in the event the State takes that
alternative.
