410
Councilman Norris moved to approve , as submitted , Minutes of Regular Meeting of
May 21 , 1973 , seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried .
PUBLIC HEARING , Application of Union Oil Company of California to amend the
Zoning Map to rezone property located at 1500 Woodside Road , from " CN"
( Neighborhood Commercial ) District to " CG " (General Commercial ) District ,
declared open and affidavit of publication report on file . Staff report
indicated that the Planning Commission , after a public hearing on May 15 ,
1973 , recommended to the City Council that the subject site be rezoned from
" CN" ( Neighborhood Commercial ) District to " CG " (General Commercial ) District .
( A full report was submitted to Council . )
Mayor Keckley invited the representative of Union Oil Company to come forward .
Mr . Norman H . Miller presented a brief review for
the Council . He stated the Union Oil Company had
had this station since 1952 and in 1972 they had
remodeled and had been operating from 6 : 00 a . m . to
12 midnight . However , with the recent changes in
the Zoning Ordinance , these hours are no longer
permitted in this zoning classification . If the
zoning classification is changed , the station would
probably operate on a 24-hour basis , but they would
like to have the option of operating a lesser number
of hours . He said the Union Oil Company believed
that the Planning Commission ' s recommendation for a
zoning change was realistic and conformed to the
surrounding development and the need for services
along Woodside Road .
After further discussion, it was brought out that Union Oil Company was experi-
encing gas shortage as other oil companies are and that this station would
probably keep its hours at a minimum and close on weekends . It was noted at
this point that the Environmental Impact Report was a negative declaration .
There being no further communications or oral discussion , Councilman Williams
moved to close the public hearing , seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried .
Councilman Henderson moved to introduce ORDINANCE ADDING SECTION 60 . 15 . 2 TO
ORDINANCE NO . 1130 , THE REDWOOD CITY ZONING ORDINANCE , REZONING PROPERTY IN
THE VICINITY OF 1500 WOODSIDE ROAD , seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried .
PUBLIC HEARING , Application of Coca Cola Bottling Company to amend the Zoning Map
to rezone property located at 633-643 Bair Island Road from "TP" ( Tidal Plain )
District to " IR " ( Industrial Restricted ) District was declared open and
affidavit of publication and mailing was reported on file . Planning Commission ,
following a public hearing on May 15 , 1973 , had recommended that the City
Council approve the application for rezoning . ( A Staff report and Environ-
mental Impact Report were submitted to Council . )
In answer to Councilman Henderson ' s concern regarding the 40 ' width curb-to-
curb improvement of the road , noise buffering by landscaping and the archi-
tecture of the building , she was assured that the City did have control over
these potential problems through City ' s Architectural Review process , and that
the street would be a complete street, with fire hydrant , alarm systems ,
6/4/73
Reg .
