Acting Police Chief has commended all personnel for excellent per- <br /> formance during the Fourth of July parade in the handling of several emergen- <br /> cies and some arrests , Personnel . City Manager hosted a Service Pin Awards <br /> luncheon on June 12 , when presentations were made to a number of employees <br /> for service ranging from 10 years to 35 years . Parks and Recreation . Direc - <br /> tor of Parks and Recreaction met with neighborhood representatives from the <br /> Middlefield neighborhood area concerning various possibilities for providing <br /> a park in that area . Three alternative locations exist , each currently con- <br /> taining some vacant property . It was indicated to the representatives that <br /> this area would be one of several that would receive priority attention by <br /> the Open Space Committee of the Park and Recreation Commission as they start <br /> to re -evaluate neighborhood park areas throughout the community . Further <br /> research would be necessary to determine feasibility of neighborhood sites as <br /> they relate to existing buildings , as well as future funding for acquisition <br /> and construction . <br /> Parks and Recreation Director responded to question by Councilman Leipzig con- <br /> cerning timing for the Hetch -Hetchy development , indicating that in perhaps <br /> two or three weeks a calendar may be set up , and copies would be available . <br /> Councilman Leipzig recalled that an ordinance had been adopted some time ago <br /> relative to upgrading service stations and expressed concern regarding pro - <br /> gress in this area . City Manager explained that in some respects the <br /> ordinance would apply when someone comes in for entitlements such as a use <br /> permit , signing , architectural permit , etc . However , he suggested that where <br /> non-compliance is observed , Staff should be informed . City Attorney added <br /> that certain portions of the ordinance apply to existing stations , and noted <br /> that the Planning Director did send notices at the time the ordinance became <br /> effective , to all service stations . <br /> Councilman Henderson inquired about the current status of the proposed Farm <br /> Hill Boulevard speed limit change . City Manager indicated that following <br /> the previous presentation , further studies were made , and that when the <br /> current Farm Hill -Jefferson Signals project is completed , additional studies <br /> w ill be made to provide a basis for comparison . Director of Public Works <br /> e stimated that the signals project would be completed in approximately three <br /> w eeks . <br /> Proposed Sprinkler System Ordinance . <br /> Proposed amendment to the Municipal Code would provide requirement for auto - <br /> matic sprinkler systems to be installed in those buildings or structures <br /> having a total floor area of 10 , 000 or more square feet , or which are 50 feet <br /> or more in height , or are 4 stories , irrespective of height .
