458 Mr . Ray Worley , 887 Wattemire St . , Belmont , Building Industry Association , stated that the Code already provided for requirement of sprinkler systems in structures having 12 , 000 sq . ft . of floor space , and noted other situations where sprinkler systems are already required . He felt that the best approach would be to adopt the 1973 Code . It was noted by Mayor Keckley that Staff had indicated when the time was - appropriate to do so , they would recommend adoption of the 19 73 Code , Mr . Joseph Lodi , 1834 Jefferson Avenue , former Fire Chief of Redwood City, spoke in support of the proposed ordinance , stating that he had long favored such a requirement , and that fire personnel were in the best position to know about fire prevention and their views should be heard .
