7
what was in that report so that it can be laid to rest . City Manager
elaborated further , indicating that he did not believe the City was
suggesting that the airport be moved , but rather has suggested to the
Airport Land Use Committee that alternatives to the runway extension should
be investigated , in view of limitations of the ancillary services , and that
the future for a viable county airport should at least be looked at and
evaluated . Also , one of the great concerns of the Waterfront Committee is
the airport and its future in relation to all the other land uses that will
be considered for the area easterly of the Freeway . As he understood the
letter , there were two things of concern , being that the County complete its
study before simply extending the runway , and also that Redwood City be allowed
some input .
Commissioner Kerwin felt that since it represented a change of direction
from Planning Commission ' s previous position , perhaps there should have
been some input to the Commission from the Council .
Councilman Henderson noted that neither Council nor the Commission had seen
the letter referred to , and Mayor Keckley provided a brief summary of the
contents . City learned of this shortly before
it was to happen without the opportunity to be involved in the decision .
Following extensive research it was felt , as detailed in Mayor Keckley ' s
letter , that it would be inappropriate for the Airport Advisory Committee
to make recommendation to the Board of Supervisors at this time , without
looking at alternatives .
He advised there had been no response from the Board of Supervisors as yet .
Mayor Keckley indicated that copies of his letter would be sent to the
Council and Planning Commission . It was noted that one of the benefits of
these joint meetings is the opportunity for direct communication between
Council and the Commission .
Commissioner Johnson recalled that at the previous joint meeting there had
been a report relating to remaining sewer capacity , and had anticipated
something on the subject would be discussed at this meeting . She indicated
concern with respect to how this relates to matters that come before the
Planning Commission for approval , from the standpoint of allocation . City
Manager responded that the intent at the first meeting was to provide that
Adj . Reg . Mtg .
7 -17 -73
