324
it became clear that Redwood City was not forcing them, and that these
were problems that can only be resolved by joint effort .
Vice-Mayor Henderson invited Councilman Rhodes , Chairman of the General
Plan Steering Committee , to comment .
Councilman Rhodes expressed appreciation to those who had served on the
Steering Committee , as well as to Mr . Halsted . He commended the efforts
of the many citizens who had participated, and observed that there was no
apathy in Redwood City . Councilman Rhodes then named the members of the
Steering Committee under his chairmanship : Gerald Day, County Supervisor ;
Vice-Chairman George Wolfson ; Jerry Gunnarson ; George Laakso , Assistant
County Planning Director ; Louis Masarie ; John Meenaghan ; Warren Mitchell ,
Deputy Director of Public Works ; George Nickelson, and Edie Paulsen . A
number of the Steering Committee members , as well as members of specific
issue committees , were present in the audience .
Councilman Rhodes asked Mr , Halsted when the summary would appear in the
newspaper, and Mr . Halsted responded that it was being held up until pre-
sentations were made to both the City Council and the Board of Supervisors .
After presentation to the Supervisors Tuesday, March 27th, at 3 : 00 p . m . , he
estimated it would take about two weeks to finish the text . In response to
question by Vice-Mayor Henderson concerning the high school site at Farm
Hill Boulevard and Route 280 , Mr . Halsted pointed out similar existing
employment areas " at freeway interchanges to the South on Route 280 , or
to the North , in San Mateo , where it was felt the most feasible use would
be a regional type commercial office .
Mr . Louis Rossi stated he owned a couple of lots
in the area, and asked , with respect to the survey ,
if anyone represented the owners of vacant land up
there .
Mr . Halsted responded that basically the representation on the committees
were residents within the area . However, they did take surveys of absentee
lot owners and invited those who responded to attend " coffees " at which
thirty to sixty people were present , for each of the several problem areas .
There were efforts to have them participate on committees , which were not
too successful .
Vice--Mayor Henderson asked what would be the technique , when this is before
the Planning Commission, for informing residents of the area and landowners .
Planning Director advised that the main notification would be by published
notice in the newspaper , and the supplement to go to all newspaper sub-
scribers , plus additional distribution to each home in that area . In
addition , there is a mailing list of all absentee owners , and copies of the
supplement is to be mailed to each of those on record, so the public hearing
3/26/73
Reg .
