341 <br /> County Board of Supervisors for funds . <br /> Lorene Wilson , Chairperson , Board of Directors of PROBE , expressed apprecia- <br /> tion for the opportunity to make the presentation to Council . <br /> Clifford Boxley , Director of PROBE, commented that there had been over <br /> three years of an ongoing relationship with the City, and prior to commu- <br /> nity action , assistance was simply in the form of "hand-outs " without <br /> providing the opportunity to participate in policies affecting their own <br /> destinies . He then presented a series of photographic slides depicting <br /> the numerous activities involving PROBE . <br /> Lynett Cole , 127 Franklin Street , Venceremos organization , said that the <br /> Neighborhood Council set up by the E . O . C . , not only needed the money , but <br /> also the power to spend the money according to the need in East Redwood <br /> City , <br /> Al Gutierrez , 1315 Ebener Street , complimented City on the first edition <br /> of the Newsletter . He then referred to the budget request sheet , which <br /> listed programs administered by PROBE , He felt that the programs were <br /> worthwhile and hoped that assistance could be provided to help PROBE <br /> survive , so that the programs enumerated could continue . <br /> Sharon Jackson , 3658 Highland Avenue , Redwood City, member of the PROBE <br /> Auxiliary, stated she was a former resident of the target area , and was <br /> now a volunteer in the organization . She felt PROBE was the nerve center <br /> for City ' s anti-poverty program, and was impressed with the fact that <br /> PROBE stresses self-help . She indicated that PROBE initially was geared <br /> to be on a voluntary basis , but that over a period of time evolved to <br /> where fund-raising had become necessary, and described their efforts in <br /> that function . She urged continuing support of PROBE through emergency <br /> funding through the end of the fiscal year , believing that it was a good <br /> investment . <br /> Lou Knowles , Land for People Organization , presented a petition to the <br /> Council , which he indicated had been circulated among the persons in the <br /> audience during the meeting , expressing support of the Probe Community <br /> Center and requesting Council to fund the Center at this time due to cuts <br /> in Federal funds as of March 31 , 1973 , and which contained 100 signatures . <br /> Clifford Boxley concluded the presentation with a summation , stating they <br /> had worked hard , come a long way and generated a lot of involvement . He <br /> noted the evident willingness of the City to involve itself with social <br /> and human needs , through annual support of PROBE, creation of a Redevelop- <br /> ment Agency and building of the Community Center , both at PROBE ' s request , <br /> 4/9/73 <br /> Reg .
