<br /> 1. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Councilwoman Gasparini invited everyone to attend the Bay Trail clean-up <br /> scheduled for Sunday, August 8th, behind the Century Theatre. Councilwoman <br /> Gasparini thanked the General Services Department for its help in doing some <br /> major clean-up in preparation for August 8th. The clean-up will start at <br /> noon and last until 2:00 P.M. with a picnic at Pete's Harbor immediately <br /> following. <br /> B. Councilwoman Gasparini thanked the General Services for their help in <br /> fashioning a workable shopping cart ordinance. Councilwoman Gasparini <br /> described the involvement of the major stores in Redwood City and the <br /> partnership the City has encouraged to make this ordinance work. <br /> C. Councilwoman La Berge described the merchants involvement in a <br /> beautification effort on the 2600 block of Broadway, including flowers in <br /> half barrels, the flying of flags from other nations, and corrective <br /> treatment for sidewalk trees. <br /> D. Councilman Greenalch stated he had been too angry to speak his mind during <br /> the discussion about 696 Upton earlier in the evening, but wanted everyone <br /> to know that the existing conditions were unacceptable and he wanted staff <br /> to mount a full court press to eliminate this situation. <br /> E. Councilwoman Steinfeld congratulated Erlinda Tulioc, Park and Recreation <br /> Program Coordinator, on the birth of her daughter, and described Erlinda's <br /> work with Down Syndrome children. <br /> F. Mayor Buchan discussed the following items: <br /> 1) The Labor council has requested the City to involve itself in its labor <br /> dispute with Oracle. Mayor Buchan asked for input from her colleagues. <br /> 2) Chairman Rolandelli, Historic Resources Advisory Committee, has asked <br /> Council to write a letter to the San Mateo County Historical Association <br /> offering to have a representative from the HRAC sit on the committee <br /> seeking a new home for the San Mateo County Historical Museum. Mayor <br /> Buchan asked for input from her colleagues. <br /> 3) Mayor Buchan offered to be the voting representative at the annual I <br /> conference of the League of California Cities. ! <br /> I <br /> 4) Mayor Buchan announced that a task force had been formed, the Redwood <br /> City Mid-West Flood Relief Team, to hold a fund raiser to help the flood <br /> victims of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Mayor Buchan described Ste. <br /> Genevieve and its unique historical setting as similar to Redwood City <br /> and its historical setting in San Mateo County. Mayor Anderson of Ste. <br /> Genevieve was very excited that a city in California could care about a <br /> town of 4,500 people so far away, and he is extremely grateful for <br /> anything the citizens of Redwood City can do.
