Mr . <br /> Mitchell responded with appropriate expressions of thanks . Certificate of <br /> Distinguished Service was also presented to former Mayor John Rosselli for <br /> his service to the community . Mr . Rosselli noted that among his current <br /> projects were Casa de Redwood and assisting in establishment by St . Pius <br /> Church and interested citizens of a facility for rehabilitation of <br /> alcoholic women . <br /> COMMUNITY PROGRESS REPORT , <br /> City Manager reviewed his written report which had previously been submitted <br /> to Council . Community Development : Value of new construction in the City <br /> for the month of March totaled 5576 , 150 . Significant new buildings were <br /> a six-unit apartment on Elwood Street , a warehouse at 1485 Veterans <br /> Boulevard , and a warehouse addition on Charter Street . Resorts International <br /> was progressing with renovation of Marine World . $39, 000 in new fencing had <br /> been built , and some lions and tigers were at the site . Leslie Properties , <br /> Inc , now owned by Bank of America , which is analyzing current financial <br /> obligations of. Leslie Properties , which included contribution to Dolphin <br /> Parks , and the second installment taxes for GID 1 -64 . Option to purchase <br /> Redwood Shores project by Mobil Oil Estates , Ltd , extends to July 1972 , and <br /> contact by them has been minimal . Neighborhood Development Council for the <br /> Fair Oaks area will apparently be taking new direction with new and active <br /> participation of Venceramos and other groups not previously active or in <br /> existence , and with election of Paul Rupert of Peoples Medical Clinic as <br /> chairman, replacing Fernando Vega . Parks and Recreation : Usage of City <br /> recreational buildings continued on a high level . 126 groups representing <br /> 4075 individuals utilized Community Activities Building ; 129 groups represent - <br /> ing 8975 persons used Veterans Memorial Building , and 190 groups and 5760 <br /> people used Recreation Center . Other activities during the month included <br /> the 9th Annual Antique Show , and the Junior Talent Contest . After school <br /> softball at various schools and parks now involves 800 boys . Public Safety : <br /> Due to extremely dry conditions , Fire Department has instituted a protection <br /> program in the hills which consists of contacting people in the area and <br /> explaining what to do in case of fire , and the addition by Division of <br /> Forestry of fire access roads . Inquiries in the Fire Department have increased <br /> substantially in recent months . An intensive program for remedial action has <br /> been instituted . Radar Sentry of California , Inc . has installed at no cost <br /> to the City , a new modern mini -alarm system for monitoring of burglary-holdup <br /> alarms . The system is able to differentiate between actual alarms and <br /> trouble on the line , saving unnecessary responses . The new system is located <br /> in the new console and occupies a space 3 1/2 " x 59 t1, compared with the old <br /> system which occupied 10 square feet of floor space , Public Works : Residential <br /> 4-10-72 <br /> . . t. . . <br />
