Wi
Tomas Pillsbury , 3081 Williams Street , spoke
in brief from two printed statements , one
regarding "PRG 7 Point Peace Proposal " and the '
second concerning alleged military contracts
of Ampex . His group was demanding their
position be approved by Council .
Myron Filene , 410 Park Street , spoke on the
effect of war on the citizens of Redwood City .
Eileen Grey , 950 Iris Street , member of Women ' s
Committee to Defend the Right to Live , expressed
the fear of further escalation of the war .
Councilman Henderson handed copies of a proposed motion to each member
of Council which she intended to offer ,
"That it be the position of the Council :
That the Redwood City Council deplores the
loss of life and the economic burden for
the American People that the Viet Nam war
has caused ; and
That we strongly support all efforts to end
American involvement in that war at the
earliest possible time . "
Councilman Leipzig indicated that she shared the views of the other
Council members , but also that the language in the motion was such
that she could support . Councilman Williams suggested that he would
like to defer action for one week to permit time to study the motion .
Councilman Weymouth felt that the motion would place Council in a
compromising position , in that it implied that a vote against it
indicated being in favor of the war , which in fact was not the case .
Mayor Keckley suggested that the motion be held for one week in view
of discussion and that Council be prepared to speak and vote on the
motion , only .
Mr . Pillsbury asked for answers on their
demands .
Mayor Keckley explained that the motion as presented by Councilman
Henderson would be discussed and voted on at the next meeting , and
there would be no further action tonight .
4-24-72
