BOLDT , seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried on
roll call vote .
Request for a Revocable Permit from City to San Francisco Water Department
for installation and maintenance of a communication line through Motor
City Subdivision . Request was made by Brian , Kangas , Foulk & Associates ,
for a permit from the City to San Francisco Water Department permitting
the installation of this line in an existing duct system installed within
the City right -of-way as part of the Motor City Subdivision improvements .
Councilman Williams moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6737 AUTHORIZING ISSUANCE
OF REVOCABLE PERMIT TO SAN FRANCISCO WATER DEPARTMENT , seconded by
Councilman Leipzig and carried on roll call vote ,
Request for Variance from strict interpretation of the Sidewalk Ordinance .
Staff report stated Long ' s Drug Stores , Inc . , had requested driveway
widths and configurations which do not conform to the City ' s Ordinances
and existing standard details . Staff recommended approval of the
variance requested since proposed driveways to be wider than the 29 '
allowed , and will permit a more smooth , orderly and safe movement of
traffic in egress and ingress . City Attorney had previously noted fact
- that Council may grant a variance if there exists practical difficulties
or unnecessary hardship in carrying out the strict provisions of Sec .
29 , 19 of the Redwood City Municipal Code , and that in granting the
variance , the purposes of those provisions are observed , public safety
secured , and substantial justice done .
Councilman Williams noted the thoroughness of the report submitted by Staff
in supporting their recommendation . Councilman Henderson commented she
felt width proposed for exception not as noteworthy as to be on all one
(without ) ( corrected 6 - 19 -72 )
level with/an incline and also happy to note this type of improvement is
being considered for potential change in the standard requirements as
this type of driveway had many advantages .
Councilman Weymouth moved to authorize granting the Variance as requested ,
subject to the condition that the construction be approved by the
Department of Public Works , seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried .
(MINUTE ORDER #72 - 115 ) ,
Councilman Norris moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6738 TRANSFERRING $ 5 , 239 . 39
FROM APPROPRIATION FOR WIDENING- OF ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS FROM WHIPPLE
6- 12 -72
