Planning Commission
at their meeting of July 25 , 1972 , recommended that the exception
be authorized , subject to specific conditions detailed in report
to Council .
Councilman Weymouth moved to adopt Resolution granting exception
to certain provisions of Chapter 30 of the Code of the City of
Redwood City -- John Griffith , seconded by Councilman Leipzig .
Councilman Norris spoke in opposition to the application , feeling
that it allowed an alley type access to a secluded rear dwelling .
Councilman Williams concurred , stating that he had previously
goine on record as opposing these panhandle lots and would
continue to do so . He felt that Council should come to grips
with the situation and say they are not going to be allowed in
the future . Councilman Henderson agreed with this position ,
and expressed the hope that Council would take a policy position
to preclude these types of developments coming before them .
Councilman Weymouth felt that if Council intended not to permit
panhandle lots in the future , Planning Commission should be
so informed . He also indicated that while panhandle lots were
undesirable , there were situations where this type development
was the only solution, so it was difficult to set hard and fast
rules .
Mr . Warren Weinstock , representing the applicant ,
Mr . Griffith , agreed that many of the panhandle
subdivisions were atrocious , but felt that was
not true in this case .
8/7/72
Reg . Mtg .
