This figure includes ten new resi - <br /> dential units and the Longs Drug development - the latter valued <br /> at $1 , 790 , 300 . No permits were issued in Redwood Shores and <br /> construction continues at a slow pace . Parks and Recreation : <br /> The summer recreation program is in full swing and resident <br /> participation in the various programs has substantially increased <br /> over last year . Significant is the usage of the Veterams Memorial <br /> Building by 1235 groups , representing 54 , 460 persons since <br /> January 1 . The Junior Olympics held at Sequoia involved over <br /> 200 children . The Redwood City Swim Club hosted the West Bay <br /> Swim Relay Championship , involving some 350 swimmers and 800 <br /> spectators . The Peppermint Patty ( girls softball) league , in- <br /> volving approximately 300 girls , was recently featured on KG0 <br /> television . The Host Lions Club has completed the development of <br /> the minipark at Linden and Park Streets and is now under City <br /> maintenance . Renovation of the 49ers field is still not acceptable <br /> to the City . To eliminate the undulations , the field was " floated " <br /> with a layer of top soil and planted with rye grass . We do expect <br /> the facility to be playable by the end of the month when the 49ers <br /> begin the regular training activities . Park Department personnel <br /> renovated the landscaping at Stambaugh House and has the grounds <br /> under regular maintenance . Transportation : Following the <br /> difficulties in qualifying Redwood City for Transportation <br /> Development Act funds ( SB 325 ) , an amendment ( SB 9 ) has passed <br /> both houses which makes virtually any public agency which subsi - <br /> dizes a transit system eligible for funds . In addition, if signed <br /> by the Governor , SB 9 will eliminate the levy of a sales tax upon <br /> the $ . 11 gasoline tax . This loss of some $8 million statewide <br /> only applies to the $35 million which was to have been distributed <br /> to the various cities for general fund purposes . For Redwood <br /> City we can anticipate a drop in estimated revenue of $15 , 000 - <br /> $20 , 000 . Library : Lawrence Brian was elected President and <br /> W . Earl Whitaker Secretary of the Library Board for 1972-73 . <br /> Public Works : Following the Cement Drivers / strike , the Mezesville <br /> tennis court resurfacing is proceeding and will be finished by <br /> August 15 , 1972 . The weed abatement contract awarded January 17 <br /> has been completed . The cities of San Mateo , Belmont , and Foster <br /> City have prepared the extension of Laurie Meadows Drive across <br /> the Bayshore Freeway and connecting to Edgewater Boulevard in <br /> 8/14/72 <br /> Reg .
