162
and it was brought out that this bus route was primarily for students
only to be run from 6 : oo o ' clock a . m . to 7 : 00 o ' clock p . m . on
weekdays and from 9 : 00 o ' clock a . m . to 6 : oo o ' clock p . m . on
Saturdays , every half hour . A decision as to whether to continue
or cease the provision of this service will rest with the City ,
based upon the results of the experiment , and with the proposal
of the College to finance one -half the deficit at the end of a
trial period .
Mr . Sears inquired as to the route ,
and it was explained the starting point
was Railroad Station to Broadway to
El Camino , South on El Camino to
Jefferson , West on Jefferson Avenue
and Farm Hill Boulevard and into the
College with return to the Station by way
of Franklin Street . He mentioned he
highly recommended the service and would see
that the facility was encouraged at the
College .
Councilman Rhodes moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6794, ESTABLISHING ROUTES
OF TRAVEL, HOURS OF OPERATION AND RATES OF CHARGE FOR THE MUNICIPAL
TRANSIT SYSTEM ; AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NUMBER 5951 , seconded by
Councilman Williams , and carried on roll call vote , Councilman
Leipzig being noted absent .
Relocation of City Council and City Planning Commission meetings .
City has been notified since tighter security measures are being
required at the Hall of Justice and Records , all night meetings
are to be cancelled . Council will be required to use City facilities ,
and it is recommended that the Veterans Memorial Building , 1455
Madison Avenue , be used for conduct of both the City Council and
City Planning Commission meetings . Relocation requires a Code
amendment for relocation anticipated by mid -October .
Comments were made in regard to the fact that tax money went into
the building of the present facilities and that they should be
made more available for public use and the jail should be moved
to another area rather than City Council , That it was hard to
build up the business district when hard core criminals were
being held right in the middle of town , That City Council should
express their feelings to the Board of Supervisors . It was
felt that the County should do something about their jail
facilities so that the public buildings can be available when
they are needed on a night time schedule . City Manager mentioned
he had made several attempts to set up a meeting with the Board
9/11/72
Reg . Mtg .
