169
Officer T . Epperson had been selected and was attending the Hazardous
Devices School at U . S . Army Missile Center , Redstone Arsenal , Hunts -
ville , Alabama , for three weeks . Federal funds had been awarded .
The 1250 GPM pumper , which was put out of action during the Dumbarton
pillow factory fire June 7th , was still out of action , but it was
anticipated would be in operation within thirty days . Telephone System :
The Automatic Dial 9 switchboard had been in service for about four
weeks and was still experiencing mechanical difficulty . Experts from
Western Electric had been brought in from out of State , City Attorney
indicated he had been advised by Staff that day that the switchboard
was operating properly .
In the discussion by Council , Councilman Henderson commented with regard
to the question of revenue sharing, and urged that the City not become
involved in hasty decisions about funding until they are in hand . She
also asked that Staff be requested to prepare an equivalent of the
5-year program budget for the whole of the term . She hoped Council
would examine the whole funding capability , then react as with the
regular budget and establish and implement in phases . Mayor Keckley
felt the suggestion was well taken recognizing that the revenue - sharing
bill had not been passed as of this time . He agreed that the best
course of action would be to wait until programming of the money by
staff . ( Memo 9/19/72 )
Mayor Keckley novel that this was the first meeting of the new group of
Government Affairs Program student counterparts to the Council , and
for the benefit of the audience explained the program . He then intro-
duced each of the students and Council counterparts as follows : Sue
Byrne , Mayor Keckley ; Frank Yriarte , Vice -Mayor Henderson ; Rita Pityer ,
Group Administrator , Councilman Leipzig ; Renee Krahner , Councilman
Norris ; Nancy Capone , Councilman Rhodes ; Peter Salsedo , Councilman
Weymouth , and Larry Fabbro , Councilman Williams .
PUBLIC HEARING , Resolution of Intention to vacate portions of easements for
public utilities purposes and wire clearance purposes , Lot 16 , Block 3 ,
Farm Hill No . 6 (R . W . Mellott ) , declared open and affidavits of
publication and posting ordered filed ,
Staff report indicated that on August 21 , 1972 , Council had adopted
Resolution of Intention to vacate these easements and setting public
hearing for this date .
