Towne , Towne Motor Company , indicated <br /> he favored beautifying the City, particularly <br /> the parts that people passing through see , but <br /> there should be respect for those who have <br /> businesses along El Camino . He felt that <br /> elimination of curb parking would be an obstacle <br /> for businesses , particularly for auto dealers . <br /> Mr . L . T . Maule , operator of a barber shop on <br /> El Camino Real , said if parking is eliminated , <br /> it would destroy businesses . <br /> Mock Wong , of El Camino Typewriter Co . , ex - <br /> pressed concern regarding acquisition of property <br /> for the improvements . <br /> City Manager noted that this was not intended as a public hearing , <br /> and that staff was at this stage asking for permission to have <br /> hearings on planning, and this concern would be part of those <br /> discussions . He advised Mr . Wong , in response to question , that <br /> there would be alternative plans presented . <br /> Mr . Dave Geery , A - 1 Glass , expressed hope that <br /> Council would approach the proposal with caution , <br /> and felt if done as planned , El Camino would <br /> become a nice clean thoroughfare through Redwood <br /> City to other shopping areas , <br /> Councilman Weymouth pointed out that Council was authorizing Staff <br /> to proceed with informational meetings , and on the basis of those , <br /> to make further recommendations . During those studies , the actual <br /> situation involved with merchants would be brought out . <br /> Councilman Weymouth moved to authorize Staff to proceed as recommended , <br /> seconded by Councilman Leipzig and carried . <br /> (MINUTE ORDER #72 - 186 ) <br /> Proposed improved League of California Cities Service Program and <br /> accompanying dues increase , League of California Cities was proposing <br /> to expand and improve their services for the cities of the State of <br /> California , and as a result thereof , the Board of Directors had <br /> proposed an increase in dues schedule in order to provide for <br /> increased costs . The matter would be the subject of discussion and <br /> decision at the annual League of California Cities conference in <br /> Anaheim the week of October 16th , and action by Council was required <br /> prior to the conference , <br /> Mayor Keckley noted that detailed report by City Manager , along with <br /> report of the proposed improved service and schedule of dues increase , <br /> had been provided to Council . He spoke in favor of the proposal for <br /> improved service , and nod Redwood City ' s dues would go from $2 , 165 <br /> to $3 , 248 , and that there had been no increase since 1968 . <br /> 10/9/72 <br /> Reg .
