409 <br /> Councilman Petersen moved to grant the revues t of the Native Sons of the <br /> Golden West to host Statewide Admission Day Celebration if Redwood <br /> City is selected , taking into consideration departmental request that <br /> the parade be held on Sunday , and work with PCA with respect to <br /> providing flags , seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried . (MINUTE <br /> ORDER #72 -26 ) <br /> Councilman Henderson noted that Council did have a written request for <br /> approval concerning the Mexican Independence Fiesta , and moved that <br /> Council continue its support of that activity , that City costs for <br /> their event and that of the Native Sons of the Golden West be incorpora- <br /> ted into Budget considerations for the next year , and that Staff be <br /> requested to coordinate the two groups , seconded by Councilman Weymouth <br /> and carried . (MINUTE ORDER #72 -27 ) <br /> Councilman Henderson suggested that Council request Mayor Bury to direct <br /> a letter to the Convention. and Visitors Bureau encouraging their <br /> assistance , and asking their help in fostering; both events . (Memo 2 -8-72 ) <br /> Request of Condor Legion Model Airplane Club re : Model Airplane Exhibition . <br /> The Condor Legion had requested in a letter dated January 7 , 1972 that <br /> City grant permission to conduct a model airplane exhibition at Red <br /> 1 <br /> Morton Community Park on June 17-18 , 1972 , Request was referred by <br /> Council to staff for report . City Manager noted that along with his <br /> report , a recommendation fran the Acting Recreation Director had gone <br /> -10 Council that permission not he granted , and citing reasons , but suggesting <br /> alternative locations . City Manager also advised that in the event a <br /> contract is awarded for renovation of the 49er practice field , the area <br /> would not be available for the exhibition . <br /> Mr . Bob Anderson, 1432 James Ave . , representing <br /> the Condor Legion, spoke in support of their <br /> request, and indicated that with respect to <br /> possible complaints from residents , they had <br /> in past years distributed notices for a 5-block <br /> radius , and that last year there had been no <br /> complaints . In addition, their rules require <br /> noise - limiting devices . <br /> Mr . Richard Allen, 451 Carlos , advised he was <br /> contest director last year, and 440 model <br /> airplanes competed for trophies . In planning <br /> this year ' s competition they had an indication <br /> last December that there would be no objections <br /> from the Recreation Department . He described <br /> the reasons for needing a large field . <br /> Council noted there had been alternate locations suggested , including <br /> Hoover School , Woodside High School , or Canada. College , <br /> Mr . Allen described difficulties encountered in <br /> each of those sites , such as the fact that there <br /> was insufficient flat land at the College , and <br /> that Woodside High School refused permission . <br /> He indicated noise appeared to be the main <br /> objection, and that their association requires <br /> 2 -7 -72 <br />
